You must have a different definition of second.

Advanced stats for the last 4 years

2012 - 155

2011 - 59

2010 - 81

2009 - 48

Revis was #1 in 2009 and 2011

It was 2011 he was second in the NFL for QB rating against. Guy had a great year.

If they chose prowbowlers based on one stat and ignored everything else he may have made it it.

He had a decent year

Well I also watched him that year and he consistently played great on other teams number one receiver, but no you are right. Gamble sucked. Wasn't good since 08. Good riddance to that bum. He was soooo lucky that QBs were unable to complete passes to their WR leading to such a low QB rating. I don't understand how Gamble left them so open all the time and the QB and WR were never able to connect.

Wrong. 2011 was one Gamble's best seasons. Much better than decent. Thats why as understandable as this cut is, it stinks because Chris really looked like he fit perfectly in our new defensive scheme.

He was back to performing pretty pedestrian prior to his injury last year.

You are bad at this and getting defensive.

Gamble is simply not that big of a loss. I think he is past his prime and can make a serviceable CB somewhere perhaps. NFL experience is worth something.

We haven't had a great backfield in a while.

In 2011 Pro Football focus had him rated as their 17th best CB with a 6th best QB ranking when thrown in his direction. It was a good year, his best but far from making him the 2nd best CB in the league. He is gone because of Hurney's mismanagment of the cap and his injuries.

Gamble was good, but not 7 million good. We honestly did better later on in the season on D when he was on IR, whether he was part of the problem, or we could just get by without him. I think Norman/Thomas are servicable, but we need to bring in a legit #1 or #2 corner and upgrade FS.Goodbye Gamble, enjoyed your years here.

On PAPER this secondary looks bad.. but it has performed well when Chris went on IR. I'm not opposed to bringing in another CB via draft or FA but I don't think its the most dire need on the team. I like what Thomas did at CB, a lot. Who knows what he's capable of over 16 games. And honestly, I don't love our safety situation but Campbell, a lot like Thomas, played well.

    • No doubt.  I was at the game watching it and it looked like a fly ball to the infield.  It got in the air and just hung up.  XL tracked it like a shortstop.
    • You need to go outside and get some fresh air.
    • Sorry, I don't get the "mental" thing at all. If his football IQ was as low as you say it is, then he wouldn't be out there blocking as well as he is.  It is quite possible that he's been pressing due to not really being in the flow of the game because Bryce doesn't look for him on the regular. His strength, at the moment, seems to be as a mismatch in the slot on crossers and slants in my opinion, and for whatever reason (maybe height) Bryce is more likely going to chuck it to the sidelines. So, in a sense, maybe Legette and Bryce aren't a good pairing, and that gives the appearance that Legette is not all there. Lord knows that Bryce doesn't seem to be able to hit receivers in stride so they can maximize YAC. But anyway...all that being said, I thought that X would be more than just a possession type of guy. So we'll see where it goes from here. I'm not like some, who appear not to see the value in a guy who can kill you like that, and kill you just as well as guys that do their best work on the outside, but, X is going to have to be able to consistently hands-catch on the run and separate better at the top of the route if he really wants to unlock his potential as an all-around receiver. If Bryce could consistently and accurately hit receivers, especially in seams on the slants and crossers, it would open up Legette and the offense. Just my opinion, but I think he causes all the receivers to press to varying degrees, and causes the coaches to call plays that have built-in limitations, but I could be wrong about that.
