Why we don't actually follow the Steeler model

i dont think the steelers have much to worry about...lol they never fire coaches...they are so chill....steelers know how to draft...i wouldnt be worrying about one of the most dominant franchises in the history of football. i would worry about the panthers...lol

Steelers have plenty to worry about. Their OL is still a huge question mark, their D is old and is now without one of their better players, they want to get back to running but have who at RB? Their second best playmaker on O is gone, Polamalu is old and oft injured, ect...

That's debatable. Him just being in the game makes you change your defense. Stats only tell a part of the story.

I'm not arguing that he's overpaid and I wouldn't have been too upset with letting him go, but you formulated a bad argument with a bad contract to Harrison.

Also, citing the Steelers as your example the year after they feel to make the playoffs also has a ring of irony to it.

I know he is 29 today....you didn't point that out. Fact is he should be refered to as a 30 yr old RB bc he will never play a single down at 29.

Steelers have a LONG history of with guys after they became stars. It is part of there model. Like I said, don't get too caught up in a direct Harrison/Williams comparison that you miss the real point.

If you run your business smart like the Steelers you part with guys before they are washed up. You do it for a variety of different reasons but you part with them. We are steadily doing the opposite.

My point is really that he was a victim of the OL and the scheme, like much of the offense was.

Yes, he;s overpaid. Yes, he's almost 30. But that doesn't mean he's not and can not be a very effect RB. As a matter of fact I think both he and Stewart have "bounce back" years with Shula getting back to running the ball more.

My arguement isn't whether Williams could be effective or not....situation here makes arguing that largely irrelevant.

If I had to start a team from scratch to win this year and line up a RB to give 20 carries a game to behind a FB. Give me Williams.....but that has little to do with these talks if anything.

There aren't the touches or scheme or direction for Williams to sniff the money we are about to obligate towards him. Big picture, we could be better without him.....and I think Williams will in fact be given the ultimatum of taking a paycut or leaving.

The days of Double Trouble being this team are long over....Shula or your grandma at OC.....it is a Newton slanted O now

Keeping an overpaid runningback on your roster isn't a smart decision; therefore, it isn't following a right model. Making him overpaid in the first place is even worse when there was a A+ backup plan in place already. F U Hurney.

I've always hated the fact that JR claimed to want to follow the Steelers blueprint. It immediately placed our organization in the role of a follower and inferior, a little brother if you will. We should have always sought to establish our own unique and positive identity, to establish the "Panther Way".

DWill and Stew together make less, if I am correct, than AP. If used correctly, behind a decent lline, they will produce compariable numbers. So I would not nitpick about our RB corp.

Yes DWill could redo his contract and help us out. And no one knows but him how he feels about that prospect. But IMO, he ain't going anywhere regardless of what some Huddlerz will have you believe.

In fact this offseason Panthers actually do go the Steelers way as they is also in cap trouble so they had to restructure vets to get more room and now cut Harrison like we cut Gamble. This is the year were we actually are doing the Steelers model so a odd example.

Nah, a totally made up statement you claim I think.

OL was trash last year....we need to spend money there NOT at RB. Highly paid RBs + bad OL = poor run game. Good OL + okay RBs = good run game.

The key to a good ground attack is NOT paying a 30 yr old RB HUGE money to be a roleplayer.....key is fixing the OL so Cam, Stewart, Tolbert and whoever can beast on teams.

Don't forget Williams was demoted in 2011 when the OL was solid. Scheme matters and so does what the coaches want out of the position....but you can continue to ignore that if you want and pretend like it is still 2008

Steelers have a long history of parting with guys who are stars. You can't see the forest bc of the trees.

Carolina wouldn't of parted with Wallace either. They would have over invested at WR in a WR that doesn't suit what they do on offense.

Wallace is good but the Steelers opted to sign Brown who fits what they do on offense better. No need to waste money on Wallace so they part with him. Porter another example.

We don't follow the Steeler model....not how Pitt builds overall.
