first wave of free agency drying up...

according to gil brandt.

RT @Gil_Brandt: Receieved 3 calls from agents yesterday saying first wave of FA all dried up. Def. a buyer's market. Guys having trouble getting 1-yr deals.

this is good for us. players and agents are gonna be a lot more willing to accept the peanuts we can offer and the pool of talent hasn't nearly dried up.

hang in there.

Too late for most of the drama queens here, they already jumped ship lol

I undertand what the GM is trying to do in not overpaying for FA in the beginning. But we do need to end up signing guys to improve the team. Our secondary is inredibly fragile right now.

If we can get Cason or somebody of that ilk and one of the safeties, that will allow us to address defensive tackle and the offensive line in the draft (where it is strong).

I'd be pretty happy if we could pull something like that off.

this was to be expected....the drying up. aside from the few overreacting teams who jumped first and threw insane amounts of money (mainly miami) it's been a buyers market. money just wasn't flowing because the money wasn't there for most teams and the amount of players hitting the market took away the scarcity that usually drives up the price.

we will be signing more guys because they will be forced to accept the deals we are able to make...that is if they want to work.

in fact the dried up market could actually be used as a negotiation tool with our own players that we want to renegotiate contracts with. we need cap room and their contracts are just taking up too much space. redo your deal with us or we'll have to cut you loose and you'll have to fight for potato chips like everyone else out there. harsh way of doing business, but it's needed.

Which is important because training camp is just.....four months away

Cason fell off last year. Josh Thomas and James Dockery played extremely well for us last year.I don't have the time to breakdown every game but I'll give you guys this.

The corners who played the outside the most down the stretch were Thomas and Dockery.

Combine they played 483 snaps in coverage. Thomas played only 6 in the slot so the rest were on the outside.

Of those 483 snaps in coverage combined they were targeted 67 times and gave up 44 receptions for 572 yards and a whopping 2 TD's. One against Julio Jones and one against Sproles when they lined him up on the outside.

Then Norman who gets knocked all the time played 447 snaps in coverage was targeted 80 times and allowed 54 catches for 670 yards. He gave up 2 TD's and had 1 pick.

Norman was also victim of playing his man 20 yards off(scheme or lack of trust from Rivera) and went against the likes of Brandon Marshall,Julio Jones, Roddy White,Victor Cruz,Miles Austin,Dez Bryant,Deymarius Thomas,Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams as a rookie.

Munnerlyn played the slot decent last year but I fail to see a huge dropoff between him and Drayton Florence.

This team needs somebody who can cover a TE in the worst way and thats going to have to come from the safety position.

I agree. i thought Thomas and Dockery looked good and can improve. I think our Lines are more priority then our secondary and then a new receiver threat threw draft or FA

Exactly our corner's are young, cheap and plenty of room to improve. DT is a major need right now. For fugs sake just pay Dwan, it can't be that much that he's looking for. We also need to get a damn FS in here and would rather not have to waste a pick on that if at all possible.

There have been a ton of DT's signed already so Dwan has little chance of scoring big, he just sounds like he wants more than a 1 year deal and he deserves it.

I was incredibly impressed by Dockery and Thomas last season, and I know that Cason has dropped off recently (hence his availability). But I would still rather add a veteran body that has played well with this coach before to give us some flexibility if those guys overperformed in a limited sample size.

I agree a safety that can cover a tight end would be a good pick up.
