Who's been to New Orleans?

Cary Kollins

Recommended Posts

In June I'm going to New Orleans for a bachelor party. It'll be my first trip down there. Any advice on places to go, places to eat, live music, things to try, things to avoid would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking to stay either on Bourbon St or closer to Harrah's. I know June is a bad time to go, as it'll be hot as poo, but this was the only time the whole group could make it.

It's fun, but I don't really have any recommendations, just walk up and down Bourbon and drink your face off.

I gambled and drank and walked....a lot of each.

The food is not as good as what folks would lead you to believe, at least not in the busy areas.

It smells foul.

New Orleans is a fugging pit. Outside of eating at Emeril's it was a total bust for me.

It's a pockmark of sin, but not in a good way, because where other places have an underbelly or glamorous sin if you know the right places to go, New Orleans just dangles its saggy ,infected sin out for the world to see. I imagine it's like Vegas if the entire population of Vegas had scabies. Once the sun goes down the entire city turns into that seedy strip club from the wrong side of the tracks; the one that has a free buffet and they have a security guard instead of a door man.

Hit the nail on the head

We had a blast. Were just there for a wedding in January.

I haven't done the whole Vegas thing but my bf said he liked it way better despite the fact it smells like ass. It's a more laid back Vegas is what he said.

We were there during the first start of Mardi Gras so we got to see a parade. Go down to the river and look at all the cool SuperBowl football sculptures.

Harrahs was fun my girlfriend won $300 playing Roulette

If you wanna be drunk after 1 drink get a Hurricane. If not get a Grenade. Personally I thought th grenades tasted better.

We stayed on Conti street which is a block off Bourbon so we were about a 3 minute walk from it. It's better to stay off if you want to go to sleep before 5am.

Also some of the strip clubs are just ugh. The one we went into I was highly disappointed in the quality of wimmenz.

I got a pretty awesome mask that I bright home with me and lots of beads of course. The jazz band that walks through Harrahs is pretty freakin awesome.

There is a dueling pianos bar that is prtty cool. He only played my song and no one else's so I had to sweet talk them into putting this on the board but I guess there were a bunch of Pats fans in there ....we were there the weekend of the conference championships so Ravens/SF/ATL etc fans were all over the place

Also, cafe du monde for seem beignets is definite it's so fuging good and so is their coffee.

Down the street from that is the French Market .....just like the market in Charleston very open with artwork and local artists with handmade crafts ....there's way better prices for touristy stuff in the market

Great food thats not the tourists traps (but you'll need a reservation):

Iris - its in the quarter on St Peter. (My best friend is a chef here. If you go let me know and Ill tell him to hook you up)

Lilette - In the Garden District on Magazine.

Cochon - On Tchoupitoulas

Any of those will be damned fine food. If you'll remind me when you get closer to your trip Ill ping my buddy and see whats new and hot on the restaurant scene.

Beer

Avenue Pub - Garden Dist on St Charles - Best draught in town bar none. 40+ taps about half of which can be nitrous instead of CO2 for better beer flavor.

Drink with locals

Markey's on Louisa St. Nothing fancy, just a great local bar.

I've been to New Orleans a couple of times and have always had a pretty good time, but I'm not a panther fan with the same level of hatred towards the taints....especially since everyone's last memory of Seahawks vs Saints is Marshawn Lynch throwing the entire defense into the shitter, grabbing his balls has he flies over the endzone line and sending the super bowl champs home packing....awww...good times. but I digress!!!

Bourbon Street can certainly be a visual tour all in itself. Between the beads and boobs, you are pretty much guaranteed to run the whole gamit on what you will see and experience, no doubt there. Lots of booze to be had, everywhere and fairly cheap. Something you'd never get away with where I live that I thought was pretty cool is how you can walk into one bar and buy a drink, then walk out and walk down the street and into another bar with that same drink and nobody cares, in fact, it's encouraged. You'd never get away with doing that in my parts!!

Don't let the rainbow flags and the gay section scare you. I was with a couple locals the last time I was there and we had just as much fun in the bars at that end of the strip as anywhere, and they typically have less tourists too. Don't leave Bourbon Street at night and walk anymore than a single block away from the river side of town. Towards the river is ok, but never the other way!!!

If you have time and a vehicle, during the day only...drive down I believe it's St. Charles Ave??? It's where Loyola and Tulane are. Drive all the way to the end and look at all the huge fricken plantation type homes and the money! When you get to the end, there's a T intersection...take a right and then your next right again and drive back up that way. The difference you see in one single block is mind blowing. This is not recommended during the night time!!!!!

that's all I got....get drunk, throw beads, have fun. Don't get caught pissing in public places!!!!!

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
