Scenario where we trade up

I don't post a lot on here, but I noticed everybody seems to want to trade down in the draft to pick up whichever second round prospects they like. If Floyd or Star fall some in the draft, I think it would be advantageous of us to trade up and secure a dominant defensive tackle. I think we would have to jump ahead of the Titans at 10, so a good trade would be our pick at 14 plus our pick at 44 for the Jets pick at 9 and their 3rd round pick. With this scenario, I will add a mock draft just for giggles.

First round Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah or Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida

Third round Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia or Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M

Fourth round Terron Armstead, OT/G, Arkansas Pine-Bluff or Brian Winters, OT/G, Kent State

Fifth round Vance McDonald, TE, Rice or Ryan Otten, TE, San Jose State

Sixth round Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida or Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State

Don't mind the trade all that much, but you shouldn't really be drafting for need outside of perhaps the first round, definatly not rounds 3+, at least IMO.

Maybe some of those guys are not there, that's why I added a second option for each pick. I think the value is good for both teams, we move up 5 spots in the first for moving 30 or so spots from second to third. The Jets need to come out of this draft with a couple starters, seems legit. If for some reason Joeckel or Fisher are there, that would be awesome too. I just think trading up for an impact player would be a good way to go.

Maybe the value is a little out of wack, but i'm sure they could work out something. I would just like to see us be aggressive to get one of the best rated players in this draft at a position of need. We could spend another low pick on a DT prospect, why not shoot for the best? And we need a kicker, so we draft one that could be here for a while in the 6th. Hanson that just retired from the Lions after over 20 yrs was a 2nd round pick!

Might could see Jets willing to go down to 14 for our 2nd rounder, but no way I see them giving us their third in return.

Actually the value is about right. Our 1st and 2nd = 1560 pts, their 1st and 3rd = 1575. If we had to toss in a 7th next year or something it'd about balance out. I wouldn't mind the trade and the draft picks you chose. I'd rather have one prospect of Star's potential and a guy like Swope, Bailey or Woods in the 3rd (or Rambo or a couple other directions we could go) than a couple of possible starters, but possibly not like we'd get at 14 and 44. I said it in another thread, it seems to me the guys likely available at 14 aren't much better than the guys that will be available at the top of the 2nd. It seems there's 4 or 5 elite prospects and then the talent pool levels out a lot more evenly than usual for the next 1.5-2.5 rounds.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
