Keenan Allen's 40 time; 4.71, Luke Kuechly's 40 time; 4.5. Anyone concerned by Allen's speed? (Or lack thereof)

Lol, its so funny hearing people judge Allen off of what he did in college when he got hurt till now, but you havent heard one person address how good he wuz before he got hurt. I guess he wuz a clear top 15 pick for nothing. Just ready for the draft to get here so everything will be put in perspective.

a lot of 40 times today are more about preparation to perform well in a specific drill than actual football speed.

for example, I bet if Jerry Rice had taken months and months of prep work on trying to have a good 40 time, getting off blocks, techinque, etc. like today's kids.....his 40 would have been faster.

This could go either way. Larry Fitzgerald only ran something like a 4.75, but makes up for it with his physicality and quickness. On the other hand, and yes I know he had a poor work ethic, DUIs, blah blah blah.....but Jarrett did have a pretty bad 40 time and gaining separation from DBs was one of his major flaws as a wide receiver.

Quick, someone find me a productive WR currently in the NFL who ran as slow or slower than Allen.

Out of the top 30 recievers (yards) in the NFL only 2 ran slower than 4.65 in the combine. None of them ran 4.7 +.

Yes but that would be a classic Al Davis type of move, reaching for need.

Gettleman doesn't strike me as that kind of GM.

Your right, I don't believe Gettleman is that type of GM also, but I don't rule out any situation. I wouldn't want the Panthers drafting two WR before addressing DT. The team has to many holes. If I was the GM, I would draft Austin at 14, then trade to get back into the 1st round to draft Star if he's there. Then draft safety in the 2nd, TE or OG in 4th, BPA after but make sure to draft a kicker if a good one is available.

Star won't be there at the end of the first.
