In Gettleman I trust!

Me too, and I like Cat Crave as a website. I'm just not trusting this headline.

Here's the NFL.com article linked from their page:

San Francisco 49ers looking to trade up in NFL draft?

One general manager told Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that he believes the 49ers are interested in trading up from No. 31 overall to the 13th or 14th spot.

It doesn't even mention the Panthers, and certainly gives no indication that they're "talking"

To go from that to saying that they're already talking trade is a pretty colossal leap.

2. San Francisco will be busy – The 49ers are at No. 31 overall, have 13 draft picks, including two selections each in Rounds 2-5. It's believed by at least one GM that the Niners are interested in moving up to the 13th or 14th overall pick. There is no way that the 49ers can keep more than five or six new draft picks with the way the team is structured right now. Expect GM Trent Baalke to either trade up or trade out for picks in the future. The talk around the league is that the 49ers would like to get a defensive lineman who can eventually step in for veteran Justin Smith. The team also needs a safety, No. 2 tight end and could use an impact corner. All of that is possible.

I don't see anything in there - or anywhere else - confirming that they're actually "talking".

All it really says is that the 49ers reportedly want to trade up to one of those spots.

Article looks like pure speculation.

lol Exactly. Let's wait and see if Shefter or LaCanfora report any trade talks before we blow a load over this.

In general I like the idea of trading down if the team is lacking in talent in comparison to the other competitive teams in the league. We're certainly in that position when you look at our secondary, o-line, d-line, and WR corps. It would be my guess that we might be willing to trade down in order to rebuild our secondary, and replace piggy with someone who can actually block.

San Fran wants the guys that Carolina likes (Austin, Vaccaro, and Star), so I doubt we do a trade with them unless they overpay us. On top of that, this might be one of the most manipulative thread titles ever.. I think Mr. Scot might be the only one that actually read the article, no where did it say that we are in trade talks with San Fran; it's all speculation.

Then there's the only dollar to three dimes thing. If you move back from 14 to 31, you are essentially getting three dimes instead of a dollar, especially if there is a guy like Star on the board at that point.

I could see them talking to us to get a feel for what our price is. That way if the guy they're looking for falls to #14, they just have to pick up the phone to Gettleman and say "Are you game?"

It certainly could happen.

There's just no real indication that it has, which makes the headline rather misleading.

Yup, that's what I see too

I'm beginning to like the idea of staying at 14 then hoping for a trade back in the second to acquire a 3rd/4th

I don't think Gettleman be dumb enough to take a 3rd or 4th. SF can't fool us into dropping that far for that little. Only way to attract a trade discussion with Gettleman will be with their 34 pick.

San Francisco currently holds the No. 31, No. 34, No. 61, No. 74, No. 93, No. 128, No. 131, No. 157, No. 173, No. 180, No. 237, No. 246 and No. 252 picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.I would trade our No. 14 for their No. 31 and No. 34 but would hesitate to trade our No.14 for their No. 31 or No. 34 and No 61.
