Is it just me or does Rivera seem more.. I dont know, whats the word?!

Recommended Posts

I just cant quite put my finger on it but after seeing Rivera in several interviews over the last few months, he just seems.. different. Its just so hard to explain and I cant pin point it. Here is a good example. For my fellow Godfather fans, its as though the last two seasons Rivera was college boy, naive Michael Corleone. This season he seems to be more Don Michael Corleone. Catch my drift?

Just something about him changed. Not neccesairly in a bad way. He seems more focused and less skittish now and more mature? Like the last two seasons he was a guy you want to hang out with for a beer and shoot the poo, but this season its almost as though he has adopted a "id rather be feared than liked attitude".

Its nothing he has said or done in particular. Go watch some interview vids of him from early last year, then go watch some from the last few weeks and you will just sense the same vibe I am.

He's most likely still riding the high of saving his job late last season when it was almost seemed to be a foregone conclusion that he would be fired.  You might see the old Rivera you are used to this season depending on how things fall.

Maybe that he got 2 top DT and he has 2 years of experience........his players fought to save his job.....maybe he feel that this team is  finally in position to make a good run for the playoffs!!

I think this pictures speak volume for the players and the coaches..... looking forward to a great season

I think comfortable is the word. It seems like having Gettleman in has really taken the pressure off of him. It's almost like, having either a real direction in the team or a real say-so in the team has made him feel more at ease. It really makes you think how much of a burden Hurney was, even other than being a cap idiot.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
