Rolling Stone Poll: Ten Worst 90s Bands

lots of poison and ratt fans i guess.  there are still a lot of people who hate nirvana because they think they killed "real music".

hanson and ace of base were harmless and i'm kind of surprised anybody remembers them.

limp bizkit's success, though, is still mind boggling to me.  people forget that they were the biggest band in the world for a year or two depending on how you look at it.  they had sold a million albums in a single week at one point.

I will admit to listening to Limp dick in middle school before I got any sense. I think Wes was just crazy looking so I thought they were cool. Nirvana shouldn't have been on the list. I don't like them much, but they were talented. People forget sometimes that simplicity is a sign of genius.

Nickelback and creed are disgraces to music. Dave Matthews band is arguable, but they have some talent. Great drummer.

I never liked Nirvana all that much. One thing a lot of these bands have in common is a raspy/gravely voice. I typically can't stand it.

I like DMB OK. They were so overplayed in college that it got boring. I thought their concert was decent live.

The imitations after Nirvana have definitely affected people's views on them. They were great for what they were, even if they ripped off the Pixies.

i was a big korn fan when i was younger and aesthetically stunted as many teenagers are.  even during the three dollar bill yall$ days i could barely stomach limp bizkit/fred durst and it only went downhill from that point with their subsequent albums.

i'm honestly shocked korn wasn't on that list.  maybe it's because their biggest hit songs weren't as egregiously bad as limp bizkit's.

I was a budding, young guitarist. Wes looked fuging crazy, and i was impressionable. But Wes is better than some people might think. Look at some of his loop pedal sessions on youtube.  I also heard Nickelback's drummer is in a funk/jazz band that's pretty good, but I've never heard of them. The bands that "make it" now just make their songs to appease the masses to get paid. There is very little musicianship in mainstream now, although i have been pleasantly surprised by some bands every now and then.

And I don't know why you think Korn should be on there. All things considered, they had a unique sound.

I'm as guilty as any 90's teen for buying into the whole Korn era numetal that I have grown to disdain. This includes LB, who were trendy as hell back then. I even bought Creed's first and second albums, but I blame that on the chick I was with at the time being into them.

Growing up and learning those songs (along with Nirvana's) really destroyed my hope of ever being a great guitar player. My tendencies to this day are still to do all my playing with bar E chords. Don't get me wrong, you can still do that effectively and write catchy songs and all, but I wish I'd have leaned more towards the technical side of metal back then as opposed to the numetal/rapmetal trends.

Thankfully I was never in to Nickelback. So, I can still point and laugh at people who were/are...

    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
    • I can respect the fact that we should not glorify or normalize men who have a history of beating women.  I do not think anyone was thinking of that when they posted this, but if head-butting your wife and unconsensual sex (rape) is something you cannot overlook, I agree with that.  I think they are both half-crazed attention hounds regardless of their pasts.
