And...we aren't on the list! Surprising, I know. This is a good sign, that someone recognizes that our team has no glaring holes in our position groups.

Take it with a grain of salt, though. I don't agree with some of the honorable mentions.

Carolina ranked 13th against the pass last year.

Tampa Bay and New Orleans ranked the very worst.

Their units should be on the defense list, not ours.

it is position groups.

Our pass D allowed opponents the BEST completion % in the NFL.  Despite having the best pressure in the NFL per snap...only 6 teams had fewer INTs (1/3 of those few picks where by LBs).  Secondary stunk last year.....and it had the pass rush everyone claims will save it this year.

I don't think our corners would be considered one of the worst; maybe our safeties.

our CBs are worse than our Ss.   Only strong part about or CBs is when in a nickel look....the nickel doesn't suck.  At least Godfrey is hovering near average

They both threw money and/or draft picks into their secondary. Neither of which we decided to do.

I still think we are better than last year. But not by a very big margin. We do have a front four, or six, that can be disruptive. So we have that going for us.

You keep bringing this up as your metric to our inadequacy's last year. And there are two glaring flaws in your case.

One. We played a, keep them in front of you D. That slews the comp%. So it really is misleading when you try to use it.

Two. Our pass rush was great. Early in games. Late in games? Not so much. The fatigue factor of the front four also has a bearing on comp%. As they wear down later in games the comp% go up. Which also skews your logic.

If you could not see our pass rush slowing down late in games. And just want to go with your comp%. Fire away. Just know that your stats are skewed. Which ironically, is why you dismiss stats that you don't like.

One.  That isn't what Rivera is about.....that is what having no talent is about.

Two.  You have the stat backing that up?  You have to provide the stat....

Well, you can assume that our D-line won't be one of the worst (how could it with CJ and Hardy, and the additions in the draft), or the LB corps, being one of the best with Keek and healthy Beason/Davis (with added depth in FA and draft), which leaves the secondary as the only question mark.

I think it is safe to say that Captain and Godfrey are the strengths here. And we brought in guys in FA, one of which has 10 int's in three years (DJ Moore, Bears). Drayton Florence is probably not someone to rely on, but he is experienced with 10 years in. Josh Norman is a guy, and Lester is a long shot. Looking at CB's and Safetys individually, they may be some of the worst in the league when it comes to depth, but I feel like as a secondary unit they are not the worst at all.

Never fear.....Captain Pessimism is on the scene.

    • yeah, Steve was basically like on any actual topic that approached his flaws/problems.....89 went with the long winded, try to sound like a wise man strategy of just basically just pleading the 5th (and sprinkling in the idea that others could of been wrong or wrong too).   also, in terms of the assaults and stuff like that....it feels like old 89, I feel has sort of forgotten his well-documented confessions and apologies about that aspect and era of his and was trying to re-write his story/image in hindsight.   And in all honesty, it seemed like a PR move on the twitter/cheating stuff also attempting to play himself as not the bad guy some think with the intentional vague suggestions. and the Pivot and all these athlete moves to basically take the reigns and power from traditional outlets exposes they have just as bad as flaws if not more often than the traditional media folks.  I mean I do like the free form long talk when dudes are telling stories but all this stuff is largely flawed and controlled PR often.
    • Sadly, I agree and I’m a huge Melo fan. Might be time to ship him out. Don’t want to make the same mistakes the Pels did. They should’ve gotten rid of Zion two years ago.
    • I forgot he was on the team and I'm pulling for him, but the statistics are not in his favor.  Some guys can recover from injuries and others cannot and let's hope Brooks is the former.  He was a beast in high school and college.
