With football being such a violent sport. I wonder why more players are not like this. I know there are a bunch of guys that go all beasty on the field. But it does seem like there is a bigger number of guys that don't have that killer instinct.

I agree with you though. Give me a team full of Smitty and Hardy type players. That team will scare a few wins a year extra for you.

we used to have it. team got soft.it was too concerned with being nice guys. i think everette brown was the pinnacle of that effort as was the focus shift to bend/don't break. there was no attack, it was just dig your heels in the ground and hope they stick.

the defense used to give out an award every week to the guy that made the nastiest hit...the black glove award. those were the days they set the tone. then they were encouraged to stop and from that moment on they lost their fire, imo.

we need that fire and nastiness back. this defense needs to go on the offensive. i'm hoping it is.

Hopefully Norman pans out, if he does this defense will be full of characters.

Luke Kuechly/Clark Kent/Keek the Freak/No Gain Kuechly: Clark Kent off the field and Superman on it.  Plays with all the fire in the world on the field.  It's still early, but he might possibly be the best LBer we've ever had, which is saying a lot.  Made this defense a respectable unit from the moment he took over the reigns at starting MLB, and looked like a seasoned veteran by the end of his rookie year.

Greg Hardy/The Kraken:  A monster literally and mythically/figuratively speaking.  Talks loads of poo and backs it up.  May quite possibly be somewhat insane.  I don't think much needs to be said about him or else it'd get rather repetitive.

Charles Johnson/CJ/Big Money/The Seventy-Six Million Dollar Man:  Well, he's not quite as colorful as the rest, but he was one of the best damn DEs in the NFL last season and he's got some funny nicknames due to his huge contract.  I think Byron Bell said they called him Ted DiBiase, lol.

Jon Beason/Beast: Was the unquestioned leader of the defense yet it might be questionable now with Luke on the scene.  Ah hell, they can co-lead it, everyone still loves the Beast.  Class act and one of the few league-wide recognized and respected Panthers.  The two best LBers in football usually started with the names Patrick Willis and Jon Beason.

Thomas Davis/TD:  One of the best stories (probably the best, just too low-profile) of the NFL last season.  Unprecedented comeback from 3 ACL tears, was completely written off by most before the season started but came out with a chip and quickly became one of the most feared hard-hitting defensive players on the football field come Sundays.  Played with the fire of a youngster with something to prove.  Has the heart of a warrior.

Captain Munnerlyn:  Probably the coolest name in the whole damned league, doesn't even need a fuging nickname.  He has his derp moments, but he made plays last season and was actually a bit of a bright spot I thought.  That and he's like every bit of four foot tall.

Josh Norman/?:  From all accounts he's a pretty big poo talker and plays with a lot of attitude.  He was pretty hilarious last season from his training camp battles with Smitty, his Pick-Zero, and the RG3 "Look at the scoreboard".  He definitely has the potential.

Star Lotulelei/Kawann Short:  Not going to talk them up as they've yet to take a snap, but they should instantly be an upgrade over what we've previously had.  I can already see the things starting with Short though (if they haven't already), "One eye on the quarter back, one eye on the running back" and of course Star... there's just too many things you can do with that name.  Hopefully we've got our 3rd consecutive ROY the year in one of these guys.

Haruki fuging Nakamura: .... Lol, just kidding.

But yeah, at least our defense is taking on a bit of an identity.

TD used to be called The Hammer and paralyzed some guy on the packers his rookie season.

Terrence Murphy?

He wasn't permanently paralyzed, but the guy had to quit football or risk the possibility of it.

Glad you brought up Norman--he was a fifth round rookie CB who had to play the opposition's #1 WR at times.  That rarely happens if it has ever happened.  He will be better next year.

Have heard positive things about him lately. Seems to have taken his benching to heart. If he put the work in to get his job back. We are going to be better. I can live with that.

maybe. i hadn't thought about him in years. he was a packer, right? I'm glad to hear he can move. i know TD is. i remember hearing he felt pretty bad about that. still knocked him out of his career but at least he can have a normal life.

Didn't see this posted and i cant make threads so ill just put it in here. Just caught the tail end of Baldy and LT discussing more reliable franchise QB, Cam or Russell Wilson. Both said Cam, and that Cam has a lot less to work with. It'll be on again at 10pm my time (central) so i can pvr and give you guys a better recap. If anyone else saw it, feel free to recap. Im curious to know what was all said.
