channel cats eat anything they can find.  blues and flatheads mostly eat live prey.

I grew up on The James River which is one of the best cat-fishing places in the world. Anyway we would do the usual beer drinking and hoping not to catch anything. Would catch a lot of eels. Anyone catch a river eel?

 

Anyway we pulled a 60 or 70 pound cat out one night and pretty much had no idea what to do next.

I remember a few years ago at a pig picking, some dude had rigged up practically an entire chicken, tied it to a tree on the side of Smith Creek, and caught a flathead (I think?) that must've been at least 4 feet long. I suppose you're right.

 

you can fit both of your hands inside a 15 lb flathead's mouth comfortably.  a 50 pounder could swallow your whole head.

i know about the sargasso eel.   i used to have one when i had a brackish aquarium.

 

that's why its odd to catch one above two dams.   the only thing i could think of is maybe someone used some as bait and turned it loose.   either way it was over 2 ft long

I have been fishing with Zod on several occasions. I am sure there was a camera, just nothing to take a picture of. ;)

Yeah didn't do to well. Tried a few different spots with not so much as a bite. Caught a bunch of perch while just jigging, but zero cats. Read that the cats may be spawning right now which would explain it.

The bigger question is why would anyone intentionally want to catch catfish
