Smitty's OTA observations

Lafell is NOT entering his 3rd year this is his 4th. If anybody should be standing out it is him and he ISNT.

 

Bingo, I've been hearing watch out for LaFell every off season for three off seasons now....it hasn't happened yet, and I don't see him making some magical jump this year either.  He is a number three on just about every other team in the NFL, nothing more....sorry but that's the realistic non homer reality....

Are things so different from last year?

 

I'm not necessarily reading too much into the OTAs, but I do ascribe a certain amount of relevance to a player's career history.  Like was said earlier, we still have a few partially unknown quantities in Adams and Gettis. Lamont Bryant? As for anyone else, we pretty much know what the deal is. Some may not want to admit it, but  mediocre WRs on one team don't usually go to another and become quasi superstars.

Getting the run game going is the most important thing for this offense. RG3 last year threw for around 3200 yards and Cam was  near 3900. RG3 was in the playoffs because he had a RB put 1600+ on the league. .

You are right about the run game we must be able to run to sustain drives and open up our passing lanes.We neither have the receivers or schemes to drive the ball down field on a consistent basis.

I personally think the WR #3 spot will be by committee, between Hixon, Gettis, and Pilares.

 

Ginn will make the team, but my confidence in him as a WR is along the lines of Armanti, and Joe Adams. 

 

I think we have ignored the WR position for too long.Why not Brandon Loyd versus Hixon.The guy has not been great but has shown he can have a 1000 yard season when The Golden Calf of Bristol is not his QB.When was the last time we have invested over a 3rd round pick on the WR postion other than AE?

 

I think the fans want some more legitimate WRs that will not only challenge the number 3 postion but the number 2 as well.

this. there's a big reason he's been with so many teams even if he's got enough talent to be at least the number 2 receiver on any team....he's a really wierd guy that coaches don't like to deal with and players don't like in the lockerroom or on the field.

Everyone knows Smitty isn't gonna come out and praise all the players that play his position.   He's trying to motivate them by not giving them props.   Besides we have two new "starting"receivers, they're not gonna have all their poo together in OTA's.  Let's wait until TC before we make a judgement.
