TV/Internet options...

What is everyone doing for TV/internet nowadays?

I'm at a breaking point with TWC over price.. in fact, I had it setup to be cancelled but called them back once I talked to my wife. We want to have something else in place already before we cut the cord.

My only options are either of the satellite companies (which tbqh I am not a fan of). TWC, Prism, or something unconventional like a Roku.

We would like to have all the major networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, etc. but we'd also love to keep a few of the other networks like HGTV, TLC, History, Discovery, etc.

Currently, my TWC internet is supposed to be the 15Mbps tier, but it varies. I'd like to keep a comparable speed there, too, if not better.

Thoughts? Input?

I am in the same boat. Right now I only pay 68/month for 1 HD DVR and 1 HD box, with 15h mpbs internet thru timewarner. The bill is set to jump up to $108 in  3 weeks.

I called Uverse and can get 18mpbs and the uverse 200 with HD.(all the poo you need). For $97 a month but I pickup  a whole home HD DVR.

Not sure I want to do satellite because I will rage if I lose signal during a football game because of a storm and the 2 year contracts suck.

The dish and the games and storms were a real concern for me until I discovered that a $70 antenna from best buy will pull in my local Fox station at a quality that rivals if not surpasses the signal I get from the dish.

We are at the end of our two year deal with DirecTv and I am putting together the pieces to cancel the sub as soon as the last episode of Breaking Bad airs.  We are going to "cut the cord" completely and go with only Internet from TWC and then Roku, Apple TV,  Netflix, Amazon, and Off the air for all of our TV.

I could do that too but what about Monday night and Thursday night football?

Radio, Bars, Friends, and other less legal ways to have this content.

And if I'm not mistaken, if you're in the Charlotte area they will be carried by one of the local channels.

I was referring to other teams games. Bars are cool but I'd spend more money there than I would on cable. Friends' house is certainly an option.

I actually dropped direct TV, then a year later bought their Internet only NFL Ticket. I paid $350 and didn't have to sign a contract with Direct TV....this is great for people outside the Panthers viewing area!

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
