Hornets / Bobcats draft Zeller

Zod

Noel....no offensive game....soft...shot knees.

McLemore...disappeared in the NCAA tourney....showed up over weight and out of shape for workouts....heard workouts sucked....interviews went terribly....questions about his off the court acquaintances.

Not sure if Zeller is the right guy.  But I am damn glad that Noel/McLemore were not the picks.

This!  I am beyond confused by some of the reactions to us picking Cody.  We drafted the most athletic and skilled big in the draft.  This was not a bad pick.

Cut them some slack. Everyone wasnt planning on seeing the Bobcats take Zeller. it took me about 20 minutes to change my mind also.

I agree with you Chuck that the pick is a ?  But, the "Bobcats Suck" chant was embarassing.  We sounding like Jets fans.....and God knows you never want to be compared to the Jets or their fans.

Seriously I threw my remote at the tv when they selected Cody Zeller over Noel/McLemore. The LOLcats strike again!

Seriously why do we need another Byron Mullens on the team?

I understand wanting McLemore, but Zeller is a much better fit than Noel. If we added Noel, we'd have a starting lineup of Kemba, Hendo, MKG, Noel, and Biz. We'd have to win games with final scores like 60 to 55.

Dude has a post game, and a pretty damn consistent jumper from what I've seen.  Add that to the fact that he's 7 foot, athletic, and close to a 40 inch vertical... I have to say I've warmed up to this pick a lot after letting it settle in.

And with this next draft being so stacked I hope we suck enough to get another lottery pick (you know a few teams are going to intentionally tank this year for Wiggins).

The more and more I think about this pick, the more I like it.  Sounds like the Hornets will play him at the 5, but will mainly be a 4.  IDK about you, but a 4-man who is 7ft tall, 38 inch vertical, has 3 pt range and can get up and down the court sounds great to me.  The fact that their really isnt a comparison for Cody scared me at first, but Cody is very unique.  Im a UNC fan, so I got to see Tyler play a lot.  Cody is much better at this stage in his career and has a ton of upside.  We just got to sit back as Hornets fans and be patient.

We have a PG in Kemba Walker who has all-star potential

We have a SF in MKG who is going to get better and better and better

We have a PF/C in Bismack Biyombo who is going to get better and better and become a DPOY candidate before long.

We now have a PF/C in Cody Zeller who can score and has all-star potential

If the cards play out right, and we get lucky and get Andrew Wiggins, a starting 5 of Walker, MKG, Wiggins, Zeller, Biyombo is a very young but very talented one.  Will be a very good defensive team, but will also get up and down the court and I imagine wont have much trouble scoring.

This is/should be the Hornets thinking, and man, if we finally get some luck and get Wiggins, and have a ton of money to spend, we will be right back into contention.

How dare we draft the most athletic big in the draft who also happened to be the best player of the best team in the nation playing in the best conference in the nation.

We should have gotten one of those other bigs that has already had surgery on their lower body or that one kid who doesn't seem to give a sh1t about basketball.

Idiots.

    • We keep referring to it as Over drafting him like he was really a first round draft pick. We traded up at the end of the first to get him in a deal with Buffalo so that we could grab him and get an extra year on his contract if needed. At the time that sounded like "If he really soars, we can get that fifth year extension automatically". It really probably meant, "We might need five years to really get him up to starting WR speed."  He was basically a second rounder with a potentially meaningless pick as well to pay for those rights. Still, I think that with him we are on the Kelvin Benjamin bubble right now... will he ever be more than just an athlete? Can he really learn to fight and compete for that ball? Can he learn professional routes? Can he handle the fame and more money than he's ever seen in his life? Can he handle all of the pressure a fanbase puts on him? Tough shoes to fill. Not sure I'd want to be in them. I hope he gets it all together soon. A lot, most draftees, can't. Good luck and God bless to the young man. He's got a lot of work to do in a very unforgiving workplace.
    • This is the #1 reason I defend Bryce. Everyone around him is learning on the job, including him. But hey in 3 years we could have a talented offense that grew up together.
    • Nope. No balling out but he could latch on as a backup elsewhere. I still think he would be the weak link on a ridiculously loaded team that would create problems in the Playoff and while facing other really good teams. His limitations are just to much at this level. I have zero fear of playing him in the future. It's a litmus test for the D, granted the D is pretty awful currently so none needed.
