Carolina Panthers Training Camp

I have to point out what everyone else is thinking..  football and band camp?  so many jokes...  from, well, band camp..... to american pie..... to comparing band camp to football, and let's throw in a solid flute reference for good measure...

however, that is a good question and I'm curious of the answer as well..  I'm assuming there is quite a bit of down time where most guys are learning the playbook, as well as doing themselves a favor by asking coaches and players about technique, etc...  I doubt there is much film to watch but it's possible.

Band is a serious thing!  Got to stay in shape....there are muscles in use which have to be finely tuned. (My last marching band director in college even made us run laps...we had a pre-game show which involved running on the field.  The entire band laugh at first when he told us to run...then when we realized he was serious there were some other comments.)

However....I knew you guys would have fun with that "comparison."  I was laughing as I typed it imagining the responses.  Hope most of you know I am smarter than that.   You handled the reaction fairly delicately.

Still, does not look like a grueling schedule or much practice for something that is called a camp.  I know things have changed with the new agreement.

Anyone that has never heard of the deep fried pieces of heaven known as hush puppies needs to get the hell of this website right this minute.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe they're called something different up here? Stop being a pie ***** you voyeuristic prick.

I like it when people say this like its a good thing but the rest of it equate it to calling yourself a douchebag.

What does it matter where I live? I'm a Panthers fan and a member of this forum. Just stop old man. You're trying to be funny and its showing.

staying in shape for band camp?  am I supposed to come away from that with less jokes?  My mind wanders around this playground...

I figure running around with a trombone is quite aerobic..  a quiet exercise?  I wouldn't wish that on my enemies..  Well, cancel that, I would..  Sounds exhausting.....   (that's what she said, right?)

but seriously though......  Okay...  good....  now.

With that said, I'm sure the new schedule is far less grueling than ever..  Although, I do expect that Gettleman as well as the coaches agree (and I have no doubt Rivera's military background hates this) that these guys have a lot less down time than expected..

However, that's my take on what I would do...  Obviously, without reports on whats truly going down over training camp I can't say for sure..  Fact is those taking their job seriously is using every minute to learn.  With the new report that Gettleman isn't allowing players in the locker room, they better be taking advantage of their situation...

    • I still think another QB is brought in Day 3. Grier is camp body level at this point.
    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
