Why do you think we are a + 7 win team?

I think we finish 8-8 give or take one.

Not sold on OL, and that is the biggest issue.  I believe Cam's slump in part was do to horrible OL play.  We have not really addressed the issue.

Secondary IMO is doable with what our front.

WR, LaFell, Smith and Olsen are good targets.

The OL scares me.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. Additionally, the running game (DWill) seemed to improve as well once oline play improved. Gettleman was correct in his hog-molly assessment that big men allow you to compete. Defensively, I think he's done a fantastic job this offseason. Offensively, not so much... yet.

I also look at the 49ers. For the last decade they have been very similar to us. Lower-tier team that wasn't doing a whole lot of anything particularly well. In just the blink of an eye they have gone to two NFCCG and one SB. There is no reason for me to believe that no other teams are capable of that. Carolina has drafted well, produced tons of homegrown talent, and has shredded some horrible contracts. We have star players at many, many positions, and the lack of household names in our secondary doesn't scare me one bit as far as how good our defense is going to be.

That really gives me a lot of hope.  Wasn't there some final piece of the puzzle they added though?  They had this ex-Bears Linebacker as coach also, right?

Hmm...  What did they do that we haven't?

Let it go SCP. You'll never be able to sell that Otah jersey for even $10.

Some day you're gonna see a homeless guy begging for food in an authentic Otah jersey. That or you will see me tie it off, fill it with bars of soap, and beat the crap out of a Saints fan with it.

-that pick 6 was on a timing route were smitty slipped coming out of his break. but, why throw that type of route vs a team who plays cover 2 base? that is on coaching, and any cb playing in the NFL would pick that.

no way can that pick 6 be blamed on coaching, yea smitty slipped but Cam still threw it there.  I don't know what the other routes were on that play, but the out route smitty was running could have cleared out another route over top.  that game in general, along with the second tampa game was the epitome of our season.

I think coaching has a lot to do with the 49ers success.

7+ wins should be doable. Don't see any reason why this team can't win 9 games this season. Let the horses out of the barn (RBs) and use less slow developing pass/run plays when teams are blitzing you every down. Chud's playcalling really was bad the first half of the season and that can not be emphasized enough.

Now getting to the playoffs is the real goal. And you only need to have a better record than the other three teams in the division to do that. Judging by last season, I think the Panthers are the best team in the division. 7 of their 9 losses can be attributed to inexperienced youth. Cam, Luke, Amini, Norman, etc. are more able to make the necessary plays now because they're more experienced. The talent was always there, knowledge and experience was the problem.

Alot of people wanted to draft a CB or WR early in the draft. But Star and Short provide the best recipe for stifling a Brees or Ryan offense. Make them one dimensional (stop the run), and provide middle pressure to the QBs. Shorter and/or less mobile QBs have a hard time with a pass rush in their face.

knowing that a team runs cover 2 base defense were the CB zone is to sit in the flat, why would you have a timing route designed to go the flat? coaching called that play, so how is it not there fault? also remember this was the time, that Cam had to run the exact play, and not audible out of the call. my rewind will be renewed next month, so hopefully i can get a better look at the play with coaches film.

Harbaugh has a lot to do with this.Singletary brought toughness, and Jim brought the decision making.

Five Reasons for Over 7:

1. Health (Kalil and Beason)

2. Much improved D-Line

3. Cam and Rivera in their 3rd years

4. New Offensive Coordinator (Chud got too cute last year)

5. Mental mistakes cost us a shot at 10 wins last year

5 Reasons for Under 7:

1. O-Line

2. Injuries (one injury to Smith or Gross could be lethal)

3. New Offensive Coordinator (yes I know could be good or bad)

4. Secondary

5. Schedule

We have to wait for Ron to bench his best offensive player for insubordination first
