Am I the only Panther fan that would sign Hakeem Nicks over Hardy?

Recommended Posts

We have all seen in Cam's first two years how the defense has been pissing away leads. Just when we are beginning to put it together, we want to take it apart? The honest truth is, with the production that the offense has been able to put up, if we could get a stout defense, we would well be on our way to the playoffs.

Think about this; in 2012, the Saints were 3rd in points scored per game and second in total yards. Potent offense but where did a lack of defense get them?

One good year? Statistically yes, but anyone who watched him could see he had a knack for it. With what he's shown in just the last two years yes, I think you could call him a premier pass rusher.

To me, premier means that they're one of the best in the league at what they do. Hardy is good, no doubt about that. Last year he was top 15 in sacks, not top 5.

Sacks aren't the only thing a DE does.  The most important, but not the only.  If you were to factor in QB pressures, run stops, TFL, forced fumbles I bet he'd be a top 10.  Haven't crunched any numbers myself, but a number of the guys who had more sacks than him were strictly pass rushers, not the total package.

Plus, how many ahead of him in the sack list were 3-4 players?

edit:  I just looked it up, only six 4-3 DEs had more sacks than Hardy, and one of them was CJ who had the most of them all.

Where is this assumption that Alexander can replace Hardy coming from? Alexander looked like he could develop into something last year, but his rookie year <<< Hardy's rookie year. Judging off of both stats and the eyeball test.

We have an option at WR: the draft.

DE is so much more important than WR this shouldn't even be up for debate.

DE is so much more important than WR?

Not if you have a good defensive front as is....and zero WRs. WR would be more important

People claiming Frank Alexander can simply replace Greg Hardy clearly do not understand the Krakens versatility and value to the team. Perhaps even the DE position.

he isn't a versatile. But if we solve our hole at DT....more of a pure DE would be fine

Hardy gives so much help to the DL, even allowing CJ to face RTs... I value that quite a bit and don't think Alexander is as easy to replace Hardy as some fans seem to believe.

He also needs to prove he's even decent in stopping the run.

Everyone on here and other Panther sites alike all want to us to pay big money and lock up Hardy for the long term. This whole situation is Jonathan Stewart 2.0. Back before we signed Stewart, everyone was itching for the news that we locked him up, when we did lock him up, all the Panther fans jumped up for joy and all problems solved and Hurney was looked upon like a god.

Fast forward to now and its a well known joke amongst Panther fans that we have all this money tied up in the RB position and the same Panther fans that rejoiced when we signed Stewie are the same Panther fans that called for Hurney's head and continue to bash all the money we have tied up in the RB position now.

BTW, just for the record. I was against extending Stewie then and I got ridiculed for it and I was in the minority. Well here we are now. Same exact situation. We have a ton of money tied up in one DE already (Charles Johnson) we have a promising up and coming Frank Alexander, we re signed our 6 sack DT in DWAN and oh BTW we drafted two DTs in the first two rounds of the draft. Meanwhile, we have one of the best young QBs in the league with only a 34 year old stud WR to show for it and HUGE question marks at WR beyond that.

Which brings me to Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is still young, a consistent, number 1 WR who is proven and would be an immense upgrade to our offense and WR corps. We are stacked at defense, quite possibly the best LB corps in the league, a stout and deep D line. What we dont have is another legit WR aside from Smitty that can be the future weapon for Cam for years to come.

Surely I cant be the only Panther fan that sees this as the same exact situation we where in last season before we signed Stewie. Havent we learned by now not to tie up all your money in a position you are already deep at when you have glaring needs elsewhere? Panther fans should know this more than anyone.

And let me just go on the record and state this has nothing to do with Hardy. No doubt he is one of the top 4-3 ends in the league and love his personality on the field. This has to do with our current situation as a team. Im not a Hardy hater by any stretch, a fantastic DE, I just think we have glaring need at WR.

I honestly haven't gotten past your first paragraph. ..yet.

What does having two highly talented defensive ends have to do with two highly talented rbs?

Ya need more than one highly talented defesive ends. It's not a luxury like two good rbs.
