Star + Short= playoffs

Recommended Posts

Much ado has been made over whether or not the Panthers are playoff contenders this year. I say yes they are simply because of the improvement to the interior of the defensive line. I'll lay this case out in better detail if need be, but let me say this:

Three losses swing this past season from a losing season to a playoff berth. The first Atlanta game, the second Tampa game, and the Chicago game. Each of those games was lost on the final drive of the opposing offense. If the Panther's defense, specifically the interior line, were better and had prevented a single play in each game, we would be talking about a Panther's playoff showing.

If the Panthers had won those three games, we would have had a "wins in conference" advantage over Minnesota. Each loss can be attributed to a failure on the Panthers' defensive line (despite how awesomely the line played statistically last year).

Happy to lay out my observation further, but I want to see what the board comes up with.

Thoughts?

Several factors will play into our eventual and in my opinion inevitable playoff berth. Increased production on the defensive side of the ball coupled with a more conventional yet cutting edge mobile QB led offense should by my own suspicions lead to more victories ie playoffs.

we shouldnt have even given the team the ball. you give us.  coach who doesn't think it's a good idea to put the ball in the other team's hand and trust your own defense when the game is on the line and i'll show you a coach that delivers more wins.

4 plays away from 11-5 if you throw in the Seattle game...but the past is the past and that's why they play the game needless to say I'm sooooooooooo ready to get this season started...with our schedule being so tough I feel like if we get into the playoffs we will be a force to be reckoned with!! Just look at the Giant Super Bowl teams, sub par record but tough as nails get on a run late who knows what could happen! Hopefully Gettleman brings some of that attitude to this team and staff. Plus I can't even imagine how cam goes off in that spotlight...lets get it!!!!!!

I thought by reading the title you were saying by adding star and the way we played in shorts we were going to the playoffs. I like the point you are trying to make more though. Even if they are rookies it has to be an upgrade from last year.

    • Who is comparing the two QB’s as football players? They’re completely different QB’s i said before Baker got here that he could play but the huddle swore up and down he was the worst ever  Bryce very similar right now. Bryce out there with a bunch of guys that’ll be out of the league in a few years minus TMac. And given this thread is about the 4th and 1 play specifically well it was actually TMac that butchered the entire play by running the wrong route
    • Team goes as the QB goes. It's no wonder we get dogwalked on a regular basis. That's the face of the franchise.
    • Rookie 2nd rounder in his first career game (and a few weeks post punctured lung) gets 6 snaps, is doubled on 5 of them, created a pressure to force a QB scramble on the only one he was singled, and still put a little pressure on one of the doubles which ended up being an INT........... And people look at that as a bad first impression? Even if you wanted to see a better move to beat or get off the double team, just the fact that he's making teams account for him with 2 players on a given snap, is a win for the defense.  It's up to the rest of the defense to make the other team pay for doing so, you can't fault him for that. Seriously, it's like some people are just going to be upset with everything if we're not a SB contender every season and play like it every snap of every game.  I've been screaming it all offseason, we're not a player or two away from being a contender, we're still in the early phase of a re-build, especially if we don't have the QB (spoiler alert, we don't).   Sometimes you just have to see potential and growth from a team at this phase of the process, expecting elite play in week 1 out of guys like Scourton is a picture perfect recipe for ending up upset. If that's what he does in his first game coming off the freak injury and less practice time while recovering, I'm extremely optimistic of what he can turn into with more experience and time to work on his craft.
