"Pressure on Newton" Coming Up on ESPN

Recommended Posts

Will provide recap after the segment. I'm sure it will be the typical, misinformed, Cam thrashing that ESPN loves to dish out. Hopefully they have someone on to talk about it with at least a little knowledge of the situation at hand this season.

Tune in now!

UPDATE:

  • Mentioned Gettleman's comments (of course)

  • Chris Mortensen mentions how Dave Gettleman just reiterated what Cam said earlier in the week. It is time to win.

  • Says if he were playing for the 49ers, that they still would have made the Superbowl.

  • Mortensen says they are not moving on from Newton and that there is no reason to be sour towards Cam Newton. Talked about how they won 5 of their last 6 games this season.

  • Agreed that Cam Newton did have the best first two years of any QB coming into the league from a statistical standpoint.

  • Mentioned how Gettleman came from New York where Eli has won Superbowls but struggled as of late. Hinted that winning cures all and that it would apply to Cam as well.

Whole segment probably lasted about 1-2 minutes at the most. Thought it might be more and they would make a big deal out of it. Overall Mortensen just said what we all already know and it was a typical fluff piece.

I was actually pleasantly surprised that Mortenson kept it accurate and didn't twist Gettlemans words into something they weren't. Espn has a habit of Cam bashing, and I was certain that's what I was going to see. Thanks for the heads up Maine.

It sounds like only Mort did.

Will the segment replay in the next hour?

Exactly.

One "reporter" does (clarify). Meanwhile, various other ESPN "broadcasters/personalities" and segments, interpret and sensationalize it as they see fit.

The non-story, should have never been reported--the way it was earlier-- on ESPN in the first place.

Yep. ESPN has a few Cam supporters (Dilfer, K. Johnson, Schlereth, C. Carter, etc) but they are usually outnumbered by those who desire to criticize him, or stir up nonsense.

Keyshawn was a huge Cam supporter.  So much he thought we were Super Bowl bound before the season started.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
