There's some good stuff coming in early from Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell

Steve Smith

@Panthers: Steve Smith talking to the media. Said the team had a great time at fan fest and appreciated the support. http://t.co/eRviNnEmLW

@jjones9: Steve Smith has been eating organic since 2006. Buys milk from local farm and gets it delivered every Thursday

@jjones9: 89: They can say this or that or he punched a guy or whatever, but they'll never say I didn't work hard

@Panthers: Steve Smith says Armanti Edwards and Brandon LaFell are two guys that made a drastic improvement after putting in extra work this offseason.

@Panthers: Smith also praised the addition of Ted Ginn, saying he'll have a big impact on the #Panthers offense.

@josephperson: #Panthers WR Steve Smith on refs calling ball spin as a taunting penalty this year: "We're working it out."

@josephperson: Smith said he might have to alter his spin. Guessing he meant creating a little distance btwn him and defender before spinning it.

@josephperson: Smith on whether he's lost a step: "What I'm doing at 34, there are GMs hoping and praying they can draft a guy that can do what I'm doing."

@josephperson: Smith also said he tries to drive to Greenville for lunch some days so he can eat organic. ... Eat your vegetables, kids.

@PanthersBryan: WR Steve Smith says emphasis on taunting won't mean end of him spinning ball after catches: "It's still there. I'll just have to alter it."

@PanthersMax: Smith admitted LaFell beat him in competition to see who runs a better stop-7 route. LaFell laughed and confirmed his win upon film review.

@jjones9: Smith said the WRs have been owning the secondary the past 4 practices. If they continue it, "it'll be 11 straight days of tappin' it."

@josephperson: #Panthers WR Steve Smith still going strong at 34.

Brandon LaFell

@Panthers: WR @Blafell1 meets the media. Says he is trying to be the best no.2 receiver he can be. http://t.co/l9lUqGLk6V

@Panthers: Brandon LaFell says if you remove the numbers from every player on the field, you'll still know who 89 is by the way he plays.

@Panthers: LaFell says Armanti Edwards has been one of the best receivers in camp. "It's great to see him come into his own."

@jjones9: LaFell: I love all those guys (WRs), but Armanti has really been pushing me more than anyone else

@PanthersBryan: Brandon LaFell says Steve Smith has pushed him from his first day as a Panther and he thinks now he's "not far" from being a No. 1 receiver.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
