Ginn A Return Man?

Rivera mentioned that we know what he can do as a return man so he wants to give some other guys a chance to showcase their skills.

So yes he's a starting returner and right now we are just trying to figure who his backup is going to be.

that's what I figured, just wasn't sure if I was missing anything. Adams looked good last week!

Random question, hadn't seen it asked anywhere...

but why hasn't Ginn been KR/PR at all in the preseason? Is he in Rivera's "dog house?" Every depth chart updated has him starting still but have yet to see anything..

B/c everyone knows what he can do at returner.....he is dang good. Letting others audition

I sincerely hope that he returns one or two in the preseason.

me too. i guess he's been doing it long enough to be able to jump into games without a long adjustment period but for the sake of continuity with everyone on special teams it seems like it'd be advantageous to have him returning some lives balls against real opponents.

I read somewhere (maybe Jonathan Jones said it) that Ginn was up to return a punt in the first half of the game last night but didn't get a chance...2 TD's and 3 turn overs.  It seems like they are going to let him get a few reps at some point.

all have been okay, so Ginn must be the secret weapon! He's been a dud at WR imo.

Was solid last night.

23 yarder

16 yarder

Made him the most productive WR in the first half....over Smitty.

He seems to be better with Cam than DA. They have hooked up a lot in camp. Wasnt out there game 1 with Cam

I'll say this, Game one's errors were on DA.  I think he'll do more at Returns

Were you confusing Ginn with Crabtree? He's going to be a competent back up for us and has done what he's supposed to. Him and Anderson were not on the same page but he did play well with Cam.

Nevertheless you're saying Ginn>Gettis/Lafell/edwards? One out of 3, yes. At the end of the day Pilares is irrelevant and Joe Adams is on a tight rope due to roster spots.

Just to put it out there..

Ginn may actually be our secret weapon on offense aswell, and we may not be willing to show what could be comming at this point in the preseason. Kinda like bluffing.

Same could be said for every facet of our team. We have looked very vanilla for a reason.

    • Bingo. The dude is a baller no doubt and I'd love to have him in a vacuum but like you said he's gonna fetch a haul so the only teams it really makes sense for are teams with an overall good roster who they feel an edge rusher like Crosby would out them over the top in terms of competing for SBs. I'd be looking st teams like the Pats, Bucs, Ravens, Seahawks, etc. It wouldn't be shocking to see him moved. He may be more valuable to a rebuilding team in the form of the draft assets he'd fetch than he is on the field. He should still have several more good years in the tank at 28 but by the time the Raiders can reasonably expect to rebuild he's gonna be on the decline.
    • Crosby will garner a haul in a trade. I would be reluctant to make that trade because of the following: 1. Our overall roster is awful. We cannot afford to be trading away valuable draft capital. 2. He isn't the best fit(IMO) for the scheme that Evero runs.  I love the player but it would really need to be at a reasonable deal and I think he is likely to garner an unreasonable price if he gets traded.
    • In terms of need, EDGE is currently #1. Our pass rush is near league worst levels. However, I don't subscribe to "need" based drafting. BPA all day.  We do need to dramatically upgrade over Scourton, Jones, Wonnum and Umanmielen. That is likely in the running for the NFL's worst two deep. Not saying all those players are bad, but I am saying 100% of those players are 2nd or 3rd stringers.
