Gettle can't really be this oblivious, could he?

Good point....I guess I was just trying to say Gettleman is actually doing a good job as a GM

I agree with the main idea. But that whole conversation needs to be straightened out by someone. Maybe OUR beat writer will do his job. Sad thing is I expect an article praising the Eagles and Chip Kelly while calling Newton immature for being unprepared. The duh response would be , bytch, it's preseason. But you never know.

Honestly I think this is more of a, "What can he do" kinda thing. What we do have is trash. What will get cut and we MAY pick up will be trash. So it's not as if we're going to get some real quality to patch things up this year. It's gonna have to come next year for a real quality improvement.

Newton is nothing like JaMarcus Russell.

He's a lot like a young Brett Favre.

folks these days forget there was a time when people weren't sure if Favre was going to be a quality starter. He needed some improvement, and he got it. No reason why Newton can't do the same.

I agree that he looks like a young Brett Favre, but Favre developed the way he did because he was given, what turned out to be, one of the greatest coaching staffs ever, at least on the offensive side of the ball. Guys who have went on to have incredible offenses came from those Packers' teams.

I don't think Newton is going to get that kind of coaching staff around him ever.

Lets see how great of system it is when teams are gameplanning to shut it down. Philly was pulling out the stops and showing everything last night while we were vanilla. If college teams like Standford can shut it down, NFl coordinators can as well.

You really believe Philly was pulling out all the stops and showing eveything. Kelly's offense is fast pace....just what Kelly is. They were just practicing tempo....not opening up his playbook and scheming to beat us.

Agree with the many of the posts on here. The only answer for this season is a combination of plays to slow the pass rush and employ any blocking fullback/tightend to help the pass blocking and run game. I am sure they are scrambling to draw up plays that will help this offensive line we are stuck with. That may mean two things, having to constantly commit to keeping a player in the backfield to cover our ass, and living through a season of dump offs, quick slants and maybe occasional shots down field if possible.

I personally think he is tanking the season so he can get rid of Rivera and bring in his coach and secure another high draft pick. Then it will officially be his team.

The above comment is hyperbole and is intended to incite the Chicken Littles among us. Watch someone take this literal and blast me. 3...2...1...

Hehehehehe!

Cam is not the problem.  The run game is the problem.  Last year Stewart was better between the tackles.  He is out for now.  When will he come back?  That might make a big difference.

I think the problem is we have too much $$$ in our running backs.  You don't need 3 high caliber runners.  It makes them all look mediocre.  We may not have the answer on the roster anymore.  Williams is not getting good blocking on runs between the tackles. That's the biggest issue.  Stewart can't stay healthy enough for us to rely on him as the featured back.  Tolbert is a specialist.  Poole may have something, hard to tell.  Barner probably isn't the future of the franchise.  A. Smith will be cut.

The situation is a mess.  They made it slightly better financially (and we have a gifted backup should one of the them go down) but scheme-wise, the issue has not been solved.

This offense (Cam) seems to do a whole lot better when Cam actually makes a long run or two.  Why try to force the RBs to carry the load and force Cam into the pocket passer role.  I know he's taken a lot of hits, but it seems to me things really only begin to open up for this offense when Cam is a running threat on any play.  Let's get that going early (like it seems they have figured out in Washington with RGIII) and then maybe the running and passing games would have more rhythm.

Right now we are forcing something that isn't there.  It is ugly.

Yep....Cam is Cam. Issue is the rush attack not allowing out offense to be consistent. That was our issue last year. Nothing suggests that is fixed.
