The EJ Manuel pressure on Cam.

I've been watching preseason football and I took notice of QB EJ Manuel. He is physically built like Cam, had similar performance at the combine, so I'm sure throughout the regular season his name will pop up when speaking about Cam. What I notice about him is that he is very accurate in short and intermediate throws and he is not afraid to go to the check down, which sometimes Cam refuses to do. He keeps the chain moving.

Unlike Cam who looks erratic in his preseason plays, that dude looks comfortable and in full control of the  offense. In fact, during his 1st preseason game on a 2-minute drill his head set malfunctioned and he took command, called the plays  himself and march his team down to a TD. Something we haven't seen from Cam who seem to huddle on every single down the last 2 years and doesn't call his own play.

Here comes the real concern, we have them at week 2. They're loaded with talented WRs(Johnson, Woods, Goodwin) , CJ Spiller is no joke RB, their OL is adequate plus EJ can run. Their defense is also pretty good.

I'm an avid defender of Cam but what bothers me sometimes about him is his refusal to go to the check down and take what the defense give him. And he doesn't spread the football around. It's Smith or nothing for him.

Fair or not, will even more pressure be put on Cam if he doesn't come out with a victory or at least perform well in that game? I'm afraid coming out of this game people might suggest Cam should play more like Manuel. If there is a must win game for us it's probably this one.

I think EJ will definitely be compared to Cam, and he did look good keeping the chains moving with short/intermediate passes.

I aso agree that one of Cam's biggest flaws is forcing the big play instead of just taking what defenses give him. I thought he figued it out at the end of last year, but he hasn't shown it thus far in preseason.

Unfortunately, I agree with much of the OP.

Birds of a feather flock together.

LOL at "loaded with talent at WR"

They Stevie Johnson, a young true #1. Drafted Robert Woods(in the 2nd), Goodwin(3rd), and their other youngs are balling to make the team. All those guys are speedy guys. They might give us problems with that hurry up short passing attack which we didn't fair too well against in the preseason so far.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
