Barner over Williams

I think some of you are missing the point.

DWill is *clearly* the more talented back and he's the better back if he has any blocking at all.

The question is a worse back with a better style for playing behind a shitty OL a better option to be playing right now. The net worth might be higher in spite of the lower actual value of the player.

this logic is incredibly flawed .. wow

DeAngelo was running behind our 1st team o-line, Barner ran behind the 2nd right? Yeah I know, our 1st is better than the second, but my point is; with Barner running behind our 2nd and running against their 2nd isn't really a fair comparision. But I do agree with the accessment of how they both run. Barner hits the hole or crack a lot quicker that D Will.

This thread is a damn joke. #28 was phenomenal when he became the starter behind that oline last year right, CRA? It is as if #34's performance after Stewart went down didn't happen. This anybody should start other than DeAngelo Williams is too tired. You all can't even wait for the season to begin before turning the keys over to a rookie who has shortcomings as well. But that doesn't matter tho. Because anybody, including Tolbert, are better options the #34. Barner had a Seam and picked up some yards and that is enough proof for Zod to create this thread. Gtfoh!!!!

It's not, really.

DWill is very talented and given any form of OL play other than "derp just stand there gaiz" he will gain more yards.  The thing is he's a smart, patient runner who wants to let his blocks develop and pick his hole.  Behind an OL that is not developing blocks or generating holes this type of runner generates low to no yards per carry because they're stopped in the backfield or pushing just to get back to the line of scrimmage.  Add to this that DWill is not as fast as he was as a rookie (who is?) and you have a bad situation for a very talentd RB.

In Barner you have a young guy, very fast, without the patience to let a block develop who runs as hard as he can (which is pretty hard) at the first sliver of daylight he sees.  Behind an OL that is not developing blocks and not generating holes this might be the ONLY daylight you see and it must be seized.  In this situation the type of runner who is normally flawed by not having patience might be a better choice exactly because of that stylistic difference that we normally consider a flaw.

This may or may not end up being the case depending on how things turn out but the logic in suggesting it MIGHT be the way to do things is not flawed in any way.  Especially based on what we've see.

And for the record noone that I see is suggesting that Barner is the better / more talented back. Just that he's the one that might gain the most yards with the poo OL we have.

Dwill has always been the kind of back that waits for his blocks to develop (which I'm not knocking) but with this Oline your not going to be able to do that.

Barner just grabs and goes and gets what he can while he can. Basically 1 yard is better than no yards.

Zod and mwright350 are not saying barner is better than dwill. But for this unique situation with an Oline so bad, barner is the better option with his style of running. Of course it's a small sample size and I'm just going by what I've seen so far as well.

    • I am high, but that’s besides the point! The blue line is not good right now. I’ve said it all year. I don’t think this group meshes well. Slaven has been just OK Niki up and down Miller up and down ghost and Walker have been your most consistent guys. Maybe it comes together more towards the playoffs
    • I was expecting to see more cap room moves by now, which may be to suggest that we are not going to be that aggressive.  I have mixed emotions about that (because I think we have 3 needs on D and 3 needs on O--starters).  If you look to the draft for 3 starters, that is ambitious.  We need 6
    • Yeah we shouldn’t be competing with teams, bidding wise, to sign a WR. There will be one for us and our budget.  I keep saying, how many balls will there be to go around anyway? One thing good I will say for this offense is the ball has been spread around at times. Seems like I remember seeing a large number of guys have caught passes in a game. Or been targeted at least. 3 RBs 4 or 5 WRs 2-3 TEs type of stat lines. 10-11 guys.  Not every week but that happens.    As far as WR in general, we need the smaller agile and quicker component to compliment what is there. After that it should be about depth, having good backups for the starters so we can run things consistently still, if a guy is out for a week or two. That is especially important in game where you have to finish the game with who you made active.
