Jimbo was forced to pick Winston because he is who the FSU fans overwhelmingly want.

That's funny. His job is on the line and he's gonna play the guy a bunch of arm chair QB's like. I guess he lets 'em hire his assistants and design his game plans too.

Coaches steal plays from each other all of the time, Chud stole from Malzahn, Shanahan stole from Baylor, Indy just hired the OC from Stanford, Bellichek stole from Oregon, a good play/play design just works.

All of this college bashing is interesting, you act like all of our players and coaches can only come from the NFL or CFL. This kid was averaging 13 yards a pass, yet it wasn't like he was throwing 75 yard Td passes. They weren't heavily reliant on read option and still managed 175 yards rushing with only 25 yards from Winston, multiple receivers were involved, and Pitt had a top 20 defense last year.

A lot of last night was talent on FSU's part. With the Noles' advantage at WR and O Line, Pitt was forced to play off coverage (though arguably not to the extent that they did).

No offensive scheme in the NFL would give our O Line and WR corp the level of advantage you find in a college game like this (and therefore all the time Winston had while still having soft zone coverage). This is even more true when you realize that on the Panthers, both the O Line and WR's are fighting just to be average.

Talent differential, not play calling, made last night a blow out.

Says the guy willing to crown Geno Smith G.O.A.T. after he carved up Baylor.

Like Fisher said "It's one game, guys." Still it's hard to remain calm about a freshman QB who steps out of pressure, stands tall in the pocket, and goes through his reads better than most 5th year seniors.

As a far as adopting Jimbo's offense in the NFL? No.

And by game 5 of the season I had to eat crow.

A thread comparing college play to the pros?

Oh, I LOVE these, as they translate almost perfectly to the pros!

The college game is where most if not all new plays and schemes will be developed as:

A ) NFL coaches can't afford to take risks.

B ) Certain smaller schools have such a disadvantage at talent level they HAVE to take risks.

Wanting offensive systems brought into the pros wholesale is naive, but denying the importance of new things happening in college in regards to plays and formations will result in you being washed out by the inevitable tide of innovation.
