Expert predictions for the season

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Just read over PFT's season predictions, and not a single one of their guys picked the Panthers to make the playoffs, even as a sixth seed.

Our old buddy Darin Gantt?  Nope.  In fact, his Super Bowl pick is the Falcons over the Broncos (i.e. our most hated rival over our former coach).

And of course, we all know what Peter King is predicting.

So now I'm curious: What are some of the other expert picks you've seen?

Anybody actually give us a chance?

Posted this link in the FBO thread, but Mike Tanier has us as 10-6 and a Wild Card team: http://www.sportsone...ticle/59430332/

Obviously the FBO system is high on us (with reservations about Rivera that make them doubt a little that we can live up to it).

Other than that, I think Yahoo!'s Shutdown Corner blog has us ranked 11 and a playoff contender. Haven't seen anyone else giving the Panthers much of a chance.

NFL Network just had a segment about predictions for season awards.

WIllie had Luke Kuechly at DPOY

That fullback guy from the Saints, Heath Evans, mentioned Star Lotulelei a few minutes later in a different topic. Said that he will have a big impact this season.

Some douche bag said Kaepernick will win NFL MVP. It gets to me so bad how over rated this guy is. He has it so easy in SF. They could use their punter as a QB and still get into the Super Bowl.

The national media favors teams based on what you did the previous season, how large of a market your fan base represents, your QB, and how many well known offensive weapons he has available.

The large market factor can override having a below average QB with no weapons, and having accomplished nothing the previous season, which is why you'll hear every fuging single detail about the Jets for god sake.

We're a small market team, with a losing record last season, a well known QB, and no weapons other than Smith by their estimation.

Even though we all know we can beat ATL for instance, the national media will slob on ATL's knob because they have the market, the QB, the weapons, and the winning record last season. Fans in the know are fully aware that we have a good chance of sweeping ATL this season, but the national media has their system and they're stuck with it.

Don't know if that was posted yet, but he's picking us second in the division. Don't think he had us in the playoffs though. Seems super high on Cam, as you'll see. Said he'd take him this year over all the other young QBs, Luck included.

He also picked us to beat Seattle.

"Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers: Give me Cam. Get aboard, folks. Do it now before it’s all hot and stuffy, and there’s no room for your overhead baggage and you’re sitting there with a giant iced coffee in your hand and three bags and nowhere to put them and you’re furious because the cab driver took the wrong way to the train station and … well, yeah. You get it. The Pick: Panthers 28, Seahawks 23"

Peter Schrager.

Never heard of this guy, but apparently he picks the Cowboys to win the NFC East every year. He's kind of quirky as you can see with his odd comments.

Adam Shefter actually picked us to win this week. Because he is the only NFL guy on ESPN I give credence too I'm confident in his pick. He seems to be more knowledgable about the ins and outs of the current teams morethan any of the former personnel who were fired by an organization.

That said, preseason picks are a crapshoot. Look at the GOAT Colin Kaepernick articles. Ludicrous and I'm looking forward to an end of all the meaningless speculation I sit through to pass the time.

Panthers-20

Seachickens(original recipe) -12

True statement.  You can't underestimate the douchebaggery of ESPN and other major media outlets. They are all over the Steelers, Cowboys, Jets...Hell, they even cover the fugging Bills more thoroughly than they cover the Panthers.

They barely give any coverage to teams in small markets (especially in the south).  Look at Tenn. and Jax.  If you don't win 12 or 13 games, ESPN and NFLN ain't got the time of day for you.

They have their own angry gods to appease and it has to do with advertising revenue.  Don't hate them for it though.  Its the corporate culture of our nation.  Hey, that John Clayton makes funny-ass promos.

If we win 9 or 10 games, then ESPN can always rewrite history and say they had us in the wild card all along.  Its a win-win for them.

    • Hello there.  We are rolling out a complete overhaul of the Huddle. Why: Frankly this site is so old the database and antiquated software has gotten unmanageable. There is not much we can do to fix anything anymore. The new site is wired for the future including getting back in the app stores.    When:  Hopefully by early July so that we can test and recover things. After the migrations we will still have access to the old site behind the scenes to bring over anything we missed.    Wait, will I lose anything?  We are only bringing over topics and posts from the past calendar year. The tinderbox is being set on fire and rolled off a cliff. All it ever did was made this place feel horrible all while changing approximately 0 minds in 20 years.  The new site will only have 4 forums to keep this joint Carolina team sports focused. Panthers, Hornets, Charlotte FC, Hurricanes.    Improved Moderation  This is a clean slate for us, as such if you are a problematic member (you know who you are) that enjoys getting banned and coming back, we aim to make it much more difficult for you. However, upon the move your slate is clean. Take advantage of it.  We would love to get this place back to what it used to be. Nice folks with friendly banter centered around Carolina sports. We will be using the BAN HAMMER liberally to rid this place of people who aren't interested in that or try to drag the new site back into the gutter.   New Features With new tech comes new features we will be rolling out over the rest of the year.    What about the damn ads?  Fewer and less problematic ads. Again, new tech allows for this. Without ads this place gets shut down.    What if I can't login?  If you can't login due to not being able to reset your password from the login screen, email [email protected] with your username and we will get you squared away.    Let me know if you have any specific questions.
