Pass that stuff over here. ;)

I have broken this game down every which way I know how.  I've watched it a couple of times seeing what I can see, broken down the statistics.

The tape and the statistics don't show me some terrible game plan or bad playcalling

It just isn't there.

7 points right?  Well if we had 14 possessions (like some games) and 14 points would we have played better offense then having 7 points in 7 possessions?

After all 14>7

That isn't true the average scoring drive in the NFL is under 39 yards. In 2011 only 37% of all drives resulted in points regardless of field position. From the 20 it was less than 25%.

... Dude.. You're like a math magician.... 0.o stop it though because these numbers are going to get stuck in my head and the next time I watch a game I'm going to have no hopes of us scoring because we got the ball on the 20. And if I start spewing percentages and what not there's a good chance I'll be escorted out of the bar..

Good ish nonetheless

All that in only 7 possessions with no field position.

If we had 12 possessions we may have score 14-17 points but it wouldn't mean we played any better/worse

If any one coach lost the game, it was the special teams coach.  Thomas did not know to look at Ginn when he was waving off the blockers?  High school players know that.  Armond Smith did not know the rules about the sideline?  Really?  Our coach put players on the field who did not know the rules and were unprepared for every reasonable situation-he should be held accountable. That is where we lost field position.  Smith cost us 30 yards on 2 punts and Thomas cost us 45 and the ball.

We shot ourselves in the foot on offense, but that was not due to the design of the offense or the play calling.  I thought Shula did what I would have done--their DTs were exhausted.  We were body punching them out of the ring, then DWill laid it down for the second time (first one went out of bounds).  Execution sucked, but the OC was solid.

Yes, those are averages.

Good offenses do it regularly.

Bad offenses do not.

Call me silly, but I prefer us to have a good offense

I was encouraged by the running game and it makes me wish we had Stewart but Cam needs to hit Ginn down field. Doesn't matter who's fault it is, the game is over but from now on a guy like Ginn is key to opening up an offense like this.

They could have won yesterday regardless of Ginn's only 1 catch, but they can be even better if he gets more targets.

The Huddle is in full panic mode. I guess it really isn't too surprising.

What I saw was a hard fought game against a good opponent that came down to who made the fewest mistakes. Of course it sucks to lose. Everybody understands that. But this is a whole different set of circumstances than opening day last year. Sure, both were losses, but this one left me encouraged while the Tampa game left me totally discouraged.

As to the 7 points, no, that's not going to get it done. Everyone understands that. If we continue to struggle with points vs Buffalo, then perhaps I'll join the chorus of those wanting Shula's head. But I saw a pretty good game plan given who we were playing and their strengths and weaknesses.

And before I am thrown into the Rivera/Shula hugger category, please know that I was calling for Rivera's head at the end of last season and did not like the Shula hire. However, last Sunday did not convince me of anything yet as far as this season goes. It is just too early, and there were plenty of things to like about what we did.

No offense scores even half of the time from the 20 and that assumes a drive to the opposing 35 will result in a 50 yard field goal made.  That is a drive of 45 yards.  And they had the best stats in football.  The rest go down from there.  If regular is around 40% then you are correct.

Players get paid millions to execute.  I'm sick of hearing, "we just need to execute better" in pressers. Really?  I never would have figured that out.  Stop the bonehead penalties too. Mr. OC, stop rationalizing and being so self-laudatory about your great schemes.  If we are 0 and 3 at the bye, if past years are any indication, our playoff hopes are down the tubes at that point.  Ron..grow a pair and make some aggressive calls.  Shula...open the damn playbook up, and if there aren't enough plays in there to address opponent's adjustments, add some.  WR's, put some glue on your gloves, same for DWill, and you should quit running with your head down.  It will just end up in some lineman's butt like it has more than few times this season.  Barner...please get healthy and ready to run outside, but please and hold that ball so tightly you squeeze the air out of it.  Put A. Smith on the bench.  He's good for more yards lost in flags than he is yards gained in carries.

Cam, screw Shula's calls, if you see open space, run like hell for it...and for God sakes, look for open eligible receivers with something other than 89 or 88 sewn on their jerseys.  Oh yeah, there's probably a guy named Ginn about fifty yards down field with no one within ten yards of him.  He's the one standing there waving his arms like crazy trying to attract your attention. Throw him the ball once in a while OK?  And please, oh please, teach Cam how to audible and change up plays after reading the D formation so that he is barking orders like Eli or Tom (or Luke for that matter), and give him more than ten seconds to do it.  We spend far too much time in the huddle.  What the hell are they doing for 30 seconds in there, ordering pizza?

Rant over - flame away.  Most of you hardcore football gurus will probably show me fifteen or twenty reasons why I am wrong.  But don't hand me any BS about how we played possibly the hottest team in football.  If we are going to the playoffs, much less a Superbowl, it stands to reason you have to beat each and every one of them.  On a positive note, Seattle is the only team in the league with fewer points allowed through week one.  Kudos to our defense.

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
