x-post from /r/Panthers....how we're all feeling about Rivera

That's not how I feel at all... he's the reason we aren't 2-1.

He is still a terrible coach with the track record to back it up.

Maybe this game can be a turning point for him but until consistently proven otherwise...he's still garbage.

cmon man...didn't you ever see the movie???  DUMB AND DUMBER

He's in his third year and we're still wondering if he's any good. I've never seen any head coach given so much leeway.

Really? It took Bill Cowher 10 years to win the Superbowl.

I have no problem with giving time to a coach to learn how to win, but that is not how the world works anymore.

Cowher had 6 winning seasons and made the playoffs 6 straight times in his first 6 seasons....

How you think that is a legit comparison is beyond belief.

I think he's gone after the season, but he still makes a good scheme.  If we go up two touchdowns on a team with him as a coach we usually win.

Basically, we're stuck with him, so I will hope he does well.  And for all the Rivera supporters who have been avoiding posting the last two weeks, it IS, in fact, possible to hope he does well and at the same time still think he's a lousy coach.  Same with Shula.

Bottom line, I think they both suck at their jobs, but I'm sure happy they hit on everything right Sunday.  Made it a fun game to watch. :)

So what...

Just pointing out that he was given 10 years, Lovie Smith was fired after a playoff apperance. Like I said, everybody has to win now or he is a bum and needs to be fired. Maybe if we could be more patient we might actually have a winning team, but with every loss the coach needs to be fired.

This isn't Madden and in reality sometimes things take time to get right.

Is Rivera right for this team? Only time will tell and the world doesn't have time anymore.

I don't think the barometer for us is a Superbowl within three years, however people at least want to see competency in close games, and Ron hasn't given us one iota of it in that case

Maybe he was given 10 years because his first 6 years were winning/playoff seasons...LOL...it's not that hard to understand.

Rivera is to this point on his way to 3 straight losing seasons....again compare apples to apples...you are way off at this point.

HINT: you'd need to find a coach who had 3 losing seasons then won a superbowl with the same team

At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
