Panthers Begin Head Coach Search?

If that is Cam's fatal flaw then we definitely need a great offensive mind to maximize Cam's athleticism and cannon arm. We've invested in Cam so we can't say fug it and go Tampa Bay on him. I, myself, don't think so because we've seen Cam play at a high level late in games. I think Newton's issue is consistency and discipline.

I have no problem with an offensive minded coach, but I'd also be fince with a DC who brought a good OC with him.

Knowing that G-Man and Richardson are old school, I don't know. I prefer an offensive genius to be our next HC. I'm not saying a DC can't lead us to victory but I'm getting feeling that we're going to hire Rivera 2.0

I absolutely want an offensive genius on staff.

It just doesn't absolutely have to be the head coach.

True but look at what Whisenhunt and McCoy have done for Rivers together.

I'm always a little skeptical of Steeler guys outside the Steeler system.  Granted, Whisenhunt looked good in Arizona when he had Kurt Warner.  Post Warner, not so much.

I wouldn't scream if we hired Whisenhunt, but he's not my first choice.

I love Whisenhunt. He's so underappreciated. People say that without Warner, Ken was a mediocre head coach but doesn't that go for 90% of coaches who have a franchise QB? Look at all the signal callers the front office brought in for Arizona. They were horrific. Granted, part of the problem was the o-line but they trouble getting the ball to their playmakers too. Fans also forget that Whisenhunt was the architect behind that front seven that just crushed our o-line for 7 sacks.

We don't lack talent. We lack a coaching staff. Hell, we could hire Gruden tomorrow, and this team could be 5x better by November. Whisenhunt should no issue establishing The Panthers as a playoff contender under a single season.

Shanahan never accomplished anything without Elway either.

Can't agree on Gruden.  He took a Super Bowl winning team and ran them into mediocrity for the remainder of his time there.  he was fired because players hated his guts and told the owners they'd rather retire than play for him without Monte Kiffin in place.  add in that he kept a continuous QB carousel going after Brad Johnson and never developed any of his young prospects.

The problem with that is they will always be looking for a coaching job. I really don't care if its offense or defense minded coach so long as he has experience.

Gruden comes with his flaws but he's no slouch when identifying a QB's shortcomings and what they need to improve on. Typically, he's right on the money (moreso than Jaws) but I wouldn't want him as a long-term answer either.

He may be good at identifying them, but his coaching record shows he's lousy at fixing them.

The closest he came to developing a young QB was The Spleen.

    • Yes, but those guys aren't depth guard signings, they're likely going to wait and see who has injuries or players under performing and then sign there. I also think that if Ickey really is going to be able to play at some point this year, that's where our guard depth comes from.  As if he gets to the point of being active, we'd then have 3 LT's on the roster with him, Freeling, and Walker, gotta think one of them not named Freeling gets kicked inside if needed.
    • lol imagine being Hill and this is what your coach thinks about you replacing a guy giving up over 4 goals per game.
    • I don't think Tyreek is a bad player to play with on the field, for sure not in the same way that Diggs is, as he's a cancer on the field with how he acts, and wouldn't take kindly to being 2nd fiddle behind T-Mac. It's that Tyreek is just a terrible person who realistically shouldn't even be in the NFL, his insane athletic ability is why his off field transgressions have been overlooked.  If he was a WR3, no team would have kept him around, it was only that he was a 1st ballot HOF level talent that kept him around. Just zero interest in having a person like that around our young WRs, that's really all it comes down to for me with him. Again, if we were true contenders this year, that changes things and I'd rather bring in the best possible players and hope it works out.  But they're trying to build something here and to do that, you need high quality people, not just great talent.
