Cams worst problem

Snake

The thing that stuck out the most today was not the arm throws or pocket presence, it was forcing the ball to Smith. We have seen it for years and for years it was a favorable match up but old man time has caught up with Smith. Yet I know in my hart every time he goes in that huddle he is begging for the ball. The fact is Can needs to look the other way and see other players are open.

Here's the problem. What do you do now? You've got Ginn who appears to actually be reliable over the middle which could be huge in gameplans...but Olsen has had the dropsies although he's still one of the best, LaFell has the dropsies, and Smitty is really showing that he's lost a step more than we ever imagined. We don't really have that big play threat anymore...Olsen isn't a big play threat, he's a nickel and dime move the chains guy.

Unfortunately, this team is going to have to rely on Cam's running ability, and Shula just refuses to use that. He has coached Cam away from running for months now.

We have to find a happy medium. What Chud was doing, and what Shula has been doing. In between, and in my opinion we've got a somewhat MAYBE respectable offense.

Let Cam make plays, move him around, and SPREAD THE FIELD. Cam doesn't work well in bunch formations that has become very apparent. He's a big, spread offense quarterback.

Did Lafell seriously laugh?

Video?

That burns me up if true.

Yea he was definitely on the bench laughing after the play. Hell he walked off the field with a smirk.

Cams biggest problem is he plays for the Carolina Panthers. Oliver Luck is a great great father.

He actually connected with like six different targets today.

That first drive he was on fuging fire. That drop in the end zone was a game changer imo.

Your favorite target drops a td pass after you were perfect on the drive and then your "#2" wr drops a 4th down pass in the redzone. I kept saying it all game, you can't keep expecting Cam to play perfect all game while everyone around him plays like poo. Eventually he'll lose confidence and start forcing poo

Yes he did well on the first drive but it was downhill after that.

Yes, combination of things led to that downward spiral. Started with the drops. Without them, Cam would have been 10/10 with a TD.

Those picks later were definitely on him, but you could tell his confidence took a dip after that first drive. He tried to do too much.

Newton's known issues:

- Inconsistency

- Holding the ball too long

- Footwork and mechanics

- Starts well, finishes poorly

- Sometimes stares down or forces the ball to receivers

Breaking each one down...

Inconsistency: You're never gonna solve that with a gunslinger QB.  You can minimize it, but you'll never get rid of it.

Holding the ball too long: That's on Newton.  He just has to learn to make his decisions more quickly.

Footwork and mechanics: Coaching issue mainly.  Lack of good OL play will reinforce bad habits and make this worse if you don't fix it.  The longer it goes on the less chance you have of correcting it.

Starts well, finishes poorly: Also primarily on Newton, but coaching is big here too.  Most gunslingers are slow starters who get better late in the game (i.e. 4th quarter comebacks) but newton is the opposite.

Sometimes stares down or forces the ball to receivers: Another coaching issue.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
