If Shula's play calls are so moronic, why don't we just audible?

The entire play call was bad from the get go. The fact that Kalil caught his foot and Wharton whiffed as a result shows just how little room for error there was on the play. But neither of you answered the couple simple questions noted.

 

Why a 5 step drop deeper into the endzone? Who does that? Here's a clue- almost nobody. Most teams run the ball until there back isn't against the end line, like out to the 8 or 10 yard line.

 

Why was the play designed with no hot read? Why were none of the WRs looking for a quick-hitter?

 

There were more problems with the play design on that part of the field than there were with the execution. That was a play call for a time when you're not backed up in your own end zone and have a little room to operate.

 

Its not that the play call was bad, its the execution that was bad. There were two guys that could have picked up the blitzer, both failed for some reason we aren't aware of. Teams do throw the ball that deep near the endzone, it happens. Cam threw a 90+ yard TD to LaFell from his endzone. Matt Ryan did it to us last year in ATL.

 

Was the 4th down Lafell drop a bad play or bad execution. People want to chastise Shula for being conservative and then bitch when we go against the grain but the players fail to execute simple pass plays. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

 

It seemed to me Shula did adjust in the second quarter to what the Cards were doing, we saw 2 nice screens I believe.

I don't know what happened in the 2nd half. I don't know why we abandoned the run when we weren't even down by 7.

There are definitely issues but remember this O was on course for over 500 yards of O. We put up 38 on the Giants, should have done the same to Buffalo but we wasted opportunities. Even against Seattle Cam was much better than the first go around. Could have won that one too but we fail to hold onto the ball down at the 5 yard line.

 

I feel sorry for Keek, he has made 2 game changing INTs this season and both times the team has failed to take advantage.

 

Redzone O is clearly struggling.

There obviously was no audible when Cam took that safety.

* There was an obvious blitz coming.

* Cam took the snap from under center

* Cam took a 5-step drop

* There were no hot routes, no quick slant and nobody was looking for the ball.

* Cam had less than 3 seconds from the snap before he went down

 

I read that the safety was Kalil's fault. There was a miscommunication about who would block who.

I felt like splurging and bought the NFL rewind.

Cam was very accurate throughout the day. However he was missing reads consistently. It wasn't like last year where every pattern was 12-20 yards down field. People here bash Lafell but he got open on a lot of short stuff. Lots of plays where recievers saw the blitzes and went to hots and cam just didn't throw the ball. Number 58 played spy all day. There were underneath crossing routes between Lafell and Olsen where neither were covered and Cam didn't get the ball out in time.

I think Cam main problem is anticipation throws. He makes it harder on himself since he waits for players to get open before he throws the ball. The only exception is the deep outs which he throws extremely well and is probably his best throw. His accuracy is not the problem or better yet ..hasn't been the problem the last 2 games.

My whole point is not to blame Cam. It's to blame the team as a whole. The team is killing themselves and it's frustrating because it's the same mistakes from the same people every year. Somethings got to change.

Yeah, it's kind of like people saying Smitty doesn't drop passes. I think back to the Packers game where he basically threw the ball or the dropped TD. Greg Olsens two drops on perfect throws by cam.

The point of having a OC is not having to audible... There are only about 5 QBs in the NFL who can call their own offense effectively, Cam is not one of them.

This is my biggest WTF? for the season. 6 of our 1st 7 drives were 1st and 10 inside FG range. We scored 6 points. WTF?

Our Offense all year has moved the ball against every Defense they have met. Yet we are 1-3. WTF?

Our Defense is top notch. Especially good at keeping teams from scoring many points. But wait? Were 1, and fuging, 3. WTF?

You know what else we excel at? Those WTF? moments. You can't fight WTF? It is a Curse, AND, a Demon. It takes strong medicine to defeat them. I still see a bright future. They can't take that away from me.

Without knowing what options Cam has at his disposal, it is pointless to assign blame to him. Giving Cam the power to audible is admirable. The question becomes; what are they arming him with? Until we know that, we are just speculating. Which is pretty much what we Huddlesz do best.

It would be cool to know what % of his audibles work? How well he reads what he sees? What his options are? What he sees, and what he wants to do against it? Cool stuff happening around that line of scrimmage. Would give the wife's left titty to be in that environ.
