Reserve/Injured Roster

So what is the deal with this? We still have Jimmy Clausen the salesman on the roster. I thought most of these guys would get an injury settlement and be released. Did Jimmy get a settlement or did we just release him and now he sits on the roster for free

And what is up with Kugbila. Who gets put on IR for the year with hamstring and sore knees? Or was there a more serious injury? I assume he is getting paid?

Doesn't really matter whether Clausen is here through the season or not, he's on the books this year and gone in 2014 regardless.

The Kugbila to IR move seems more like one of our classic stash him for next year and hope he does something strategies.

If the player clears injury waivers, the team can then either place the player on IR or agree to an injury settlement (paying the player for the weeks that he is expected to be recovering from his injury) and then release the player.

From the internet. I'm just curious if Clausen is still under his old contract.

Also if we could technically call him back to the regular roster if needed.

I am not a Clausen fan.

But, he is costing next to nothing and knows the offense.....not much more you could want from your possible 3rd string QB.

He is a meh to me.

Jimmy is a good likable kid that just doesn't have what it takes to be a QB in the NFL.

He generally comes off as likable, but I know pre-draft he had a rep for being a bit of a douche.

Granted, that's a lot of college athletes. Maybe he's grown up some since then (don't really know).

Jimmy Clausen QB 630,000 952,500 UFA

from sportscity.com

630,000 is his base salary this year, 952,000 is what he'll make in total. He's the 24th highest paid player on our roster.

NFL contract wise that's still pretty low.

I'm not arguing for keeping him, but I just don't think there is a major benefit either way if he's gone now or in 2014.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
