Meeks will prove to be the best acquisition of the offseason

Pay attention son, because the Fox bashing went on for 10 pages before I got involved. No one is even bashing him. They're just stating the facts about Fox that he is conservative and he controls defense and what his coordinators do. If giving you facts is considered a troll then I agree I am the biggest troll on this forum.:)

Want see any argument from me....

Really no one was bashing fox till you showed up. One guy was venting and even said he was not making much since.

Time for a Re-rail

I haven't really checked a whole lot of pages on this thread because it turned into a gigantic squanderfug, but if Meeks' leash isn't a short one, he could very well turn this defense into an aggressive, ball-hawking unit.

Now I'm thinking, with the talent level he worked with in Indy, he definitely can do it here. The Colts spent years building around Peyton Manning, drafting offensive players in the first round time and again. Meeks had an assload of mid-round draft picks and undrafted free agents, and not a whole lot else. The individual stats of each player (except for one of the LBs usually) weren't eye popping, but the thing is, as a unit, they were very effective. Individually, Beason isn't a bust, Gamble either, Peppers, Davis, all our first round draft talent, but we've pretty much busted with all the money we spend the way they play as a defense. I'm tired of seeing millions spent every year on defense only to see them rank in the middle and give up more than 20 points a game. I don't care if Meeks' scheme leaves Beason only making somewhere around 80 tackles by season's end, if that means other players are stepping up and making plays because Meeks' scheme is utilizing them better than Trgovac's, that's good news for us.

...speaking of tackles, one thing you notice about Beason's 138 if you look a little closer at the stats (you'll notice this about Willis as well), the reason he had so many stops was partly because the Panthers defense was on the field for SO many plays. Not exactly shut down defense if you ask me. The Panthers ranked 7th in total plays from scrimmage on defense,<== and this is with a top ten offense. Also, our 3rd down conversion percentage was merely average in 2008. Panthers gave up 40%, ranked 15th highest in the league. Average TOP wasn't great either, 30:51, ranked 12th highest.

Meeks I am sure is a better gameplanner than Trgovac. That AZ game was one of the poorest defensive showings I'd ever seen the Panthers play. Fitz was on track to grab 300 yards receiving if the Cards decided to get greedy, but they took their foot off the gas in the second half.

This is a call for help, people.

I know it's seems funny, he could be so stupid but the reality is very sad. :troll:

If we are indeed playing cover 2 or Tampa 2 we have the right players to do it. Beason and Davis will do very well in it as well as Marshall. Gamble seems to be good enough to play whatever he is asked too. With that said Peppers might be better because of Brian Baker. He seems to want our D-line to have more then one move and Peppers uses the Bull rush more then anything else.

The fact is we have all the Tools any D coach could ever need they just need to have the right scheme and a good gameplan to use them. I will be the first to say I really wanted Greg Williams first but I am hoping Meeks is just as good.

How about I call you lassy instead since you're my bitch?;)

I said the same thing everyone else did that Fox controls the defense and the coordinators and that he is conservative. That is just a simple fact! Its not bashing anyone. Perhaps you're just a little sensitive?

    • I see they blamed Slavin for the goal like I did.
    • See this is the problem, you say "can't get off the line quick" and "can't separate quick" but in reality it's "he can get off the line better and create more separation" which are two completely different things. If he couldn't get off the line or separate, he wouldn't have put up the numbers he did and end up a Top 10 pick. But he can get better, and maybe more accurately, consistent with them both, and that will take his game to the next level.  These are things that are also much easier to improve once you get to the NFL than things like being a poor route runner or having bad hands, two of his strengths. Thinking he can't get open in the short passing game also shows you haven't watched enough tape on him, as he was used in that role so much in college with little issue getting open and making plays. And him not using his physicality as much isn't even something that hurts his game because he's so much more agile than a player of his size should be, which he used to his advantage.  Instead of throwing passes where he'd go up and box out a player like a TE or Mike Evans does, they use his athleticism and put the ball in places that only he can get to it, and he usually does (and yes, he'll still be able to do that against NFL DB's with his catch radius). But now that he's in the NFL, I'd like to see him get stronger and add that to his game because it also will help him take his game to another level. As I've said before, if he doesn't improve on those things at all, I think he's a Top 25 WR in this league, he's already that good.  But I think he'll improve on those things and be a perennial Top 10 WR and in his prime is considered and perform like Top 5 guy in some years. My expectations for him this year at 800 yards and 8 TDs (although I do think he'll get to 10 TDs) with a real chance at getting to 1,000.  But those expectations are because I think Thielen will lead the team in yards with close to 1k and XL/Coker each end up in the 500-600 range themselves, just too many mouths to feed this year for a rookie to dominate yardage, especially if we're running the ball well again. But if Thielen can't stay healthy or puts up sub 750 yards, then yea, my expectations for T-Mac likely shift to getting to 1k as a rookie.
    • Svech only 1 goal behind the guy they've pretty much already given the Conn Smythe to...
