The Buffalo loss never leaves Rivera. Just as Newton has had to learn to process losses, Rivera has learned just how precious an NFL victory can be and how betraying your instincts can destroy that victory. Since the Buffalo game, he has gone for it on fourth down seven times, converting on five. As much as Newton's growth, Rivera's sudden aggressiveness has been heralded as a major reason the Panthers are suddenly in playoff contention.

 

But he agonizes over the Buffalo game. There's a big difference between being 5-3 and 6-2 and he keeps asking himself why he strayed from his springtime promise.

 

Last week he was driving home from the stadium, heading down a hill, passing under the Belk Freeway when Buffalo popped in his mind. A knot formed in his stomach. He ran the end of the game through his mind, ignoring the fact the light before him had turned red. From the corner of his eye he could see a car heading toward him and at the last second he stepped on the brake narrowly avoiding an accident.

 

"Seriously [the loss] eats at me," he said. "It friggin' pisses me off to no end. And maybe that's what it took. Maybe that's the revelation I needed."

Rivera vs. any other NFL coach in a cage fight...i mean do we really even need them to suite up? Rivera destroys all.

I hadn't thought about Rivera like that before. Very interesting. Been racking my brain and can't come up with any other Coach that scares me. So, yeah, I'll take Rivera, and his LB, military upbringing.

Bring on Harbaugh first. Spank that whiney bitch out to sea.

same thing happened to me this morning on the way to work..... I had to poop.

He is what we were screaming for.  Now he is here and has finally become self-aware.

 

Not sure where this goes but self-awareness is always the first step.

 

Every great coach, every great team had to have that "moment" where it all became clear.  Some were minor in the media's eyes some were on display.  In all cases it was easily distinguished when the dust settled.

 

We stand on the brink of greatness.

 

May God have mercy on the offenses our defense face weeks ahead.  The Panthers will not.

 

This is our time.

 

The die has been cast. 

 

Keep pounding.

      He's right. Tepper ain't the one out there dropping balls, or missing blocks, or putting up having comically bad drafts. He's the one responsible for hiring the people that have kept our scouting department that has been one of the worst at evaluating college talent in the NFL.  He forced the transition to the 3-4 even though we've never fully committed to it and never been able to draft or sign the players to do it.  He's the one that signed used car salesman Fat Fhule that hadn't even won a game against a ranked opponent.  Then he signed a GM that was one of if not the worst GM in the history of the NFL, only to replace him with his assistant.  Frank Reich hired and fired in 9 games. Multiple potential hires for HC turning down interviews.  Changing QBs like underwear. Personal quest to trade for a sexual predator QB and would have if the contract didnt have to be 100% guaranteed.  Terrible contracts Rock Hill debacle  2023 trade up to 1 and him and his wife drafting BY  Worst defense in NFL history. Worst record in major league sports over the time frame of his ownership and the fans need to be patient and understanding of an 8 year and counting rebuild? There being any fans left is a goddamn miracle.
