Beating a Dead Horse

I've already prepared my anus for the beating I'm going to take for starting this thread......but after the way the D has played on this five game run, culminating in that total domination we saw last night of a freaking good offense.....I have now pulled a complete 180 and don't see how we can afford to let Hardy go. That line is going to have us in every game. They're young, they're studs, and they will dominate for years to come. Gettle Magic will definitely be put to the test.

We are 10-15 million under the cap which we can move forward to next year.  We have guys who are coming off the payrolls who had big salaries.  We don't have to pay Newton until after next season so Hardy should be do able as long as he is reasonable.  If we go deep into the playoffs we might even have guys willing to take a hometown discount to stay. We might be the team everyone wants to play for.

Ive always wanted a super bowl ring for Smitty solely because no one deserves it more then him. But something about Tolbert signing here for less $ then others offered him puts him high on that list as well.

Like someone else has mentioned, if we can make a playoff run, perhaps more FA's and our own guys will follow Tolberts lead knowing we're close

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
