Myths about Panthers players and coaches that were busted on Sunday.

I don't think that most people ever believed D-Will was over the hill, or had lost his homerun ability. I've heard more people speak about Stew in that manner (which is totally ludicrous IMO). The greater question is whether or not we will have two backs of this caliber, and continue to pay them big money. Is there room enough for both of them at their current salary levels in this town? I don't think so. That being the case, if something doesn't change I still say that practically, and from a business sense, we have to choose the younger and equally as productive back. Prudence is called for IF it comes down to a choice.

Moreover, though Steve Smith is our WR1 in theory, and perhaps reality, we still need his heir ("like yesterday") because he has obviously lost a step. This is true, and to suggest otherwise is being disingenuous. Can he still make key plays, especially when the game is on the line? Of course! Is he still feared like some of the younger guys in their prime today, or like Steve Smith used to be (when we were letting some of his prime years effectively go to waste by not surrounding him with talent) even as little as a couple of years ago? Not so much. I just hope that we can get him a championship before he hangs up his cleats.

You clearly don't watch much football other than the Panthers.

Specifically go back and watch the Rams v the Seahawks game....then get back to me on the Oline issues.

Actually you can remember our own game against them where Wilson was running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

teams with stout front 4s and nasty DTs get pressure even on good offensive lines

you clearly have an inferiority complex

Shula called a very up and down game and we scored 10 points....should not be singing his praises too much....

And yes I know how 'good' the 9ers defense is but I personally think they are very overrated....the Colts and Hawks plastered them for example.

Are we really content with only putting up points vs terrible defenses?

Shula called a very good game.  If we had executed any better we would have scored at least 7-10 more. That Williams misdirection play and that shuffle pass to Tolbert were outstanding calls. If you don't see that there is little to discuss.  Shula make good halftime adjustments as well.

We won a game we should have lost.  Luck is a big part of football. But fumbling the ball twice with less than 5 minutes and usually you lose those games.

We won a game in which the offense played mediocre to bad.  Reminds me of Pittsburgh in 2005. Let the defense carry us and score enough to win.

Both Shula and McDermott have been making excellent halftime adjustments.

Yea those two plays were awesome....if that is ALL you saw then there is little to discuss.

3 points from good second half adjustments....just wait until he actually screws up :startle:

There were a number of myths about our team and coaches that were dispelled in this game.

Obviously the whole Rivera can't coach the team to a win in a close game is gone and that Shula can't call plays including gadget and trick plays is no longer germaine.  But there were a number of other myths were busted.

Cam led the team to a 4th quarter score to come from behind and  propel the team to a victory which supposedly he couldn't do.

The defense held a lead late and dominated much like our teams of 2005 and 1996.

Cam threw a pick and was not very good throughout and we still won.

Williams is over the hill and can't still deliver the big run and we don't need him.

Smith can't be a factor as a number 1 receiver (even when he drops a few).

And how bout the coaches can't make halftime adjustments and in-game adjustments.  What a turnaround from the first to the second half on defense and offense.  If the receivers had caught the ball better, it wouldn't have been close. Still this was the most dominating I have seen this defense since the Tampa game in 2008.

Other myths??

Very good point about the game not being close if we could catch the ball--if Cam does not overthrow open WRs (in addition to your point), we win by 20.

Not breaking a myth, but the discipline is better.  Mykel had a dumb penalty, but the rest of the game was clean.  Throw in the Rams game, and I see the product of good coaching.

The best halftime adjustment was when we took Gonzalez out of the second half last week.

Our rotations are solid.  It matters not who is in the game---Klein, Chandler, White, Cole--they produce. (sure, Chandler had a few rough moments, but one of the best defenses in the NFL was targeting him at RG and he has never played it before)

I am content if we score 1 more point than our opponent each week.  It isn't as if winning by 30 counts more than winning by 1

49ers plays defense too.   You cant expect a blowout every week.

Ok John Fox...I know the other team practices as well.

Who said anything about a blow out anyway....my stance is production vs good/decent defenses. (Rams game being 1 good one)

I just look at our offensive rank and have an issue with poo like "Shula has been great" when he hasn't been.

He hasn't been a complete disaster like some thought but that doesn't mean he is even better than Chud was with this unit...much less great.

Defense has carried the year.
