Cam is a smoldering fire

Cam's Passing Numbers through 11 games

208/337

2353 Yds.

17Td's/9Int

61.9%

Right now hes on pace for

303/490

3423

25/13

Rushing Wise

Currently he has

379 Yd's

5 TD's

31 First Down Runs

On pace for

551 Yd's

7 TD's

45 First Down Runs

On the year that would put Cam's totals at:

3974 APY

32 Total Td's

14 TO's(Factor in a fumble)

With that all being said, I feel as if Cam can do so much better.  I feel like sometimes, Shula puts chains on Cam and restrains him from opening up and utilizing all his abilities.  Cam I feel could rush for more yards a game, could very easily throw for more yards.  While he would surpass his Passing TD's from both his first and second year, his completion % is lower than you would want it to be

(These numbers could be better if it weren't for some drops)

Do you think Cam (and the entire offense) will get better if:

A. Shula opened up the offense more, went more vertical, and stretched more of the field

or

B. Getty drafts a legitimate WR that can extend the field and builds the offense with more weapons.

or

C. Option A is going to happen if option B happens.

*Disclaimer: I am loving this win streak and love the way Cam has been playing.  This is just to raise discussion, plus, I'm stalling from my physics homework.

I gotta say the 2011 team was exciting and seeing Cam eclipse the 4000 yd mark was awesome but I would rather have the wins.

The slow methodical approach keeps the ball out of the Brady/Brees hands.   We have the best 3rd down conversion rate in the league.  The numbers are down some, at least in the passing game but the Ws are up.

I will take the W's over the numbers.    Leave it just the way it is.

Of course improve the vertical threat in the off season.

Give Gettleman an off season to work his magic on the offensive side of the ball (WR,O line, #2 TE) and you'll see Cams numbers go up.  With the offensive receiving threats we have right now combined with the talent on the o line= more conservative play calling.  Not to mention we have misfired on a lot of deep throw opportunities whether it was bad throw, receiver not adjusting properly, or the receiver dropping the ball.  Those are corrections we need to make so we can have those explosive plays.

We know Cam can go deep and rush for a shitload of yards and TDs, this season he is proving that he can complete the short-medium chain moving throws as well.  He's doing a pretty good job of polishing his game up as a pocket passer this season and playing the game before the snap.  2011 was just straight up raw Cam--pretty much just letting him cut loose and make poo happen.

Now in a season or two when all of the elements of his game finally come together and we hopefully have a threat at receiver?  Holy poo, he's going to be one bad man.

I honestly think once he puts it all together he'll have a serious shot at being the straight up best player in the league.  I think some of us sometimes forget exactly why we got so excited about him to begin with his rookie year.

This is exactly what I'm saying.  This year, its between the ears thats impressed me the most.  The composure when we're down to lead game winning drives.  To erase the interceptions from his mind.  To go through his reads.  He still has those flashes of rookie Cam (Scrambles for first downs, rushing TD's) but hes much smarter with his runs.

And you're right, I think he will be one of the best if not the best player in the NFL once everythings been put together

B

I've been saying all season that the decline of Smitty as a deep threat is what is stifling the offense.  Smitty is still damn good, but he's no longer a legit deep threat.  That's why we're seeing 8 and 9 men in the box now to shut down our running game.  We don't have any receivers that scare the other team and make them come out of those defensive looks.  Opposing DCs are more concerned with dying a death of a thousand cuts via our running game than they are of getting beat deep.  Ginn was brought in to be that deep threat, but he's just not that.  He's actually been a very pleasant surprise, but he simply doesn't have the ball skills to track the ball and make a play on it deep unless he's just wide ass open and Cam can lob it up there to him.  If there's decent coverage or if Cam has to try to hit him in stride, he's just not gonna catch it.  Ginn is actually much better working underneath and mid routes and using his speed after the catch.  He's another guy who would actually greatly benefit from a legit deep threat.

Agreed.  I look for Gettleman to really try to address our needs along the OL in the offseason and hopefully find a future #1 WR.

The offense they are running suits the defense perfectly. If you notice, when they have struggled it has been when Shula gets pass happy on first and third downs or gets too tricky with the play calling. Grind it out, minimize mistakes, and go for the jugular when it matters. It keeps the defense fresh in the fourth quarter and I really think that has been the difference maker in these close games.

I'd rather have an o-line that can road grade and pass protect before worrying about a shiny big play wideout.
