I posted in the "season bold predictions" thread that Cam's stats would be similar to the past two seasons but the media would say he is playing better or worse depending on our record.

Well his TD% is slightly up but his INT% is also up from last season. Yet he went from a sophomore slump to MVP candidate in the eyes of the media.

Like we said...winning cures all things.

QB's always get too much blame for losses and too much credit for wins. Always has been this way....and will always be this way.

C could have the exact same stats this season and they would still be all over him if we were 3-9.

I love the logic that yes, there can be racists down the street in your own neighborhood, there can be racists in the local bar, there can be racist at the grocery store, there can be racists that are COO's of corporations, but GOSH DARN IT THERE ARE NO RACISTS IN FOOTBALL COMMENTATING DAMMIT.

 

Racism can be anywhere and everywhere (a fact) but ESPN and NFLN, I guess.

I am sure that some of them are...but not all that did not believe in Cam are.

You know something I always found odd is how Matthew Stafford and Sam Bradford NEVER get talked about. You hear so much about other QBs.. Luck, Dalton, RGIII etc but no matter if they win or lose, have great games or bad games, the media never pays attention to them. Im not even sure I have a point to all this, just wanted to point it out.

Didn't Cam start with the Superman TD stuff for his younger brother? He loves his brother and kids in general. That's obvious. Doesn't sound immature to me.

Cam has given two or three different stories on why/where that came from. I don't think he knows anymore.

I'm too young to remember. Did the media/fans hate Deion Sanders when he was dancing and wearing doo rags? As a child I loved Deion and I bet Cam did to. You see the same showmanship. The same child like excitement. Some people are in a box and anything outside the box irritates them to no end.

 

No, Deion was loved by the media... they loved Primetime. 

They loved Clinton Portis... with all of his clownish antics...

And as much as love Steve Smith... he's a JERK to people on other teams... I remember when Steve Smith actually would get in fights in training camp with OUR own players.

 

Its not that the media doesnt like athletes being a "character." I think it has to do with the position that Cam Newton plays. The QB position is looked at as having to be a leader on the field, off the field, and with the media. Its almost a political thing. 

 

Cam's issues with the media go back to his college days... When asked about his father before getting on the bus... his coach stopped him from answering questions. That critique carried over into him getting drafted and into his first few years of the league. The media HATES that they have totally missed it on Cam.... about his talent, about his character, and about our team.  They cant keep coming back saying.... We really got it wrong.... So they have to make it seem like... "Cam's finally getting it."

 

Steve Smith gets a first down... he's getting up, spinning the ball and cursing everybody out. I remember a few years back after every touchdown Smitty scored... he had a different touchdown dance... and some of them were pretty offensive. Steve gets in a fight almost every game... and he's praised for being a firey competitor.

 

Cam gets the first down, and points the first down.... Gets a touchdown, smiles and does the superman... and gives the ball away to more kids (more than Jake Delhomme EVER did).... and he's immature and selfish. 

 

Im going to leave it for you to think about... because its not just hate.... its not just race... but if you start denying the factors...  you're an idiot.

 

And I happen to love the whole "Discount Doublecheck" thing.

It's funny how the media always points out that Cam does the "superman celebration",but never point out the fact that Cam is always handing out game balls to the fans, after they score.

Career touchdowns so far 59, started handing them out after a few games into rookie season. Those are a lot of football's.

cam's Rookie Campaign... offense avg 25 pts a game/ def allows 26 pts a game (6-10 record)

2nd season (The imaginary slump) ... offense avg 22 pts a game/ def allows 22.6 pts a game (7-9 record)

3rd season (The "Maturation").... 23.75 pts a game, def allows 13.1 pts a game)

 

 

I put these numbers up here so you guys could see a few things. 

 

1.) The whole idea of Cam "doing it alone" was real. And not all because he had to... but in part because there has been much experimentation about how Cam should be used... And I think Mike Shula is starting to get it.  

 

2.) I love how Stephen A Smith and the others are saying how They're winning because of the defense like its a revelation. Of course we're winning because of Defense! Thats what football is all about... We score and we stop you from scoring... dummies. In season 1 & 2, we were giving up as many points a game as were scoring, and slightly more. This puts too much pressure on a QB to try to win close games. But I think the experience was good for Cam. Against the Patriots, the Niners, and the Dolphins... those are games we would have lost in the past.

 

3.) The fact that this Defense is playing so many rookies... and is STILL the best D in the league is SCARY! Gettleman is building this team the right way... towards a Superbowl. In 2 years... this D cuts its points allowed in half. And Thats phenomenal. 

 

4.) 2014 Draft Class in my opinion should be about protecting Cam... and WR.
