GREAT article on Cam: "Don't Call It Redemption"

from the above article:

He sulked. He pouted. He showed frustration with his teammates. He refused to open his eyes during a press conference. At age 23, he conducted himself like Tom Brady on a bad day at age 36. He punted on leadership.

would you consider tom brady immature?

the link in that above quote leads to an article about old man brady from this season. here's the kicker on it....

"I've got to do a better job with my body language," Brady said after the game. "I can definitely improve on that. I wouldn't say that's a real strong point of mine right now."

when newton basically says he needed to improve in that department, according to many, that was an admission that he was immature. when brady says it, tho, what is it? brady admitting that he was immature? or was it just him acknowledging an area that he needed to improve on? and if it was that, how is it different than newton's confession?

I think this is more of just playing nice.

I believe he is the same guy now as he was then.

Yeah, isn't angry and sulking... because we are 9-4.

I mean this as a compliment by the way. I thought he was mature for a rookie for the most part.

I loved the end of the article where she was talking about just judging him as a young quarterback getting better at his craft.

Newton gets unfairly judged positive stuff and negative stuff. Just to go along with whatever media narrative is being pushed.

Thats why I am not fully buying into the RGIII drama in Washington

I absolutely agree with you.

I found that story about cams dad sitting him down and making him watch his old self to be ridiculous, in that he had to play into to this baseless narrative to shut mouth breathers up.

I don't really care about brady, this was a thread about newton. You can use whatever label that fits your confirmation bias.

Do you remember when Smitty called out Cam for sulking on the bench during a blowout? He said something like "Jimmy stands up and watches you play every single game, the least you could do is stop sulking and watch him finish the game out."

Is smitty also part of the big bad media in this situation?

You quoted my favorite line from the whole article … "At age 23, he conducted himself like Tom Brady on a bad day at age 36" … LOL

Kinda reminds me of this article http://notsportscenter.com/mnfrefsfired/ and line … "Section 12 of the NFL rulebook titled “The Brady does whatever the hell he wants and if you don’t like it too f-ing bad Rules”

I think the moral of the story is that the world and individual people are much more complex than a simple categorizing of this or that.

It is not a clear cut black and white kind of thing.  Mature or Immature label.

Kinda like I think Rayzor was talking about.  Can't a mature man have moments of immaturity, and can't a Immature man have moments of maturity.

Things are way more complex than the media has time for.

I would aptly title it "big bad media", when people in the media choose to write an article and have "facts" in the same vein as "Smitty said something like this." in its long list of misinformation and baiting.

His exact word choice I don't remember since it was years ago, the overall point was the same. I just think you are going through quite the mental gymnastics to downplay this.

The media lied about Smith and about Cam and Cam even lied about himself HE WAS NEVER IMMATURE. /s

Cam Newton was very young and inexperienced coming out of college early, with few games played. To  expect a very young person to not go through a learning curve both personal and from a football viewpoint would be foolish.

Considering the vital role a young Cam was cast in, I feel that he handled the situation rather nicely. He has progressed in leaps and bounds and the best is yet to come.

My wife and I had my buddy and his girlfriend over to the house last weekend and my wife was saying how can anyone not like Cam Newton? He flies around like an airplane before every game, blows a kiss to his mother before the first snap, and is ALWAYS smiling like he just loves playing the game. Then she mentioned how he always gives away the football to some kid making them super excited to be a Panthers fan for the rest of their life.

My buddy (a Bay Area native and 49ers diehard) gives a flabbergasted look and says how can you like that obnoxious guy doing his dances with his towels over his head when they are down by 28 points.

I told my buddy it's amazing how he was able to spit out every single Cam Newton cliche that espn throws up all in one sentence without pausing.

Cam has a ton of haters. Always has, always will. He's like the Lebron of the NFL. People hate Lebron for reasons they themselves don't even know.

My feelings exactly. I love the guy. It always made me sad in his first years when so called panther fans yelled crap to him from the stands. He heard a bunch of it, I saw the eye contact. He loves to win and despises losing, whats wrong with that. Do people want a beat down professional loser that doesn't seem to care if they don't stack up wins? I love the childlike Cammy Cam, I hope he is always a panther. Thank God for David Gettleman, he is gradually getting Cam the personell to win. If you all think this year is great, wait till next. If Cam was my son I would be completely proud of him as a son. Passion and performance, what more could you ask for.

Great read.  Thanks Rayzor for finding this little gem.

Sweet vindication for those of us that saw this already and went to bat for our QB.  My family is ridiculous on the Cam hate.  It almost ruined a family cook out a few weeks ago.  My uncle better be glad children were in the room or I would have taken his front teeth home with me that day.
