What about the old veteran WRs we did pass on, huh?

I think it's funny that people think WR is the problem.

If Cam had more time to throw it wouldn't matter.

Games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. RG - RT will do wonders for the offense.

I thought these threads would end when several posters pointed out that a WR may help some in the passing game a great O-line vastly improves every facet of our offense.

Oh, and what kills me is the people who finds it odd that other people are discussing WRs, when we have needed a WR for arguably the last five years.

Personally, I hope that we tweak the O-line with some vets, and double dip at WR in this year's draft.

What I wouldn't do to get a Jaelen Strong, Brandon Coleman, or even a Chris Boyd later in this draft, and I haven't even checked out so many of the others yet.

Anyone who doesnt think we have a significant problem at wide receiver is the biggest idiot on this board and it is by a country mile.

They do not get seperation. It is that simple. Pretending as if it is the OL's fault or even more lulzworthy, Cam's, is deluding yourself in the biggest way and you should be banned for trying to spread such slander. We have struggles at OL, sure. That doesnt explain why Brandon Lafell and the opposing CB are routinely holding each other's peckers all the way down the sideline each and every play when it is there which is often enough to be more effective than it has been if we had even a competent number 2.

I'm tired of having to scheme Brandon open to get him his 2 to 4 catches a game. That isn't a weapon, that is a liability.

And of course once every 8 weeks Brandon will finally put together a solid game against some team's UDFA and the Huddle will erupt with cheers of "HAHA OW WEE MAYNE TOLD U HE 4 REEL NOT URRBODY GONNA BE JULIO JONES!!"

You know, I never thought about the fact that it does appear that we scheme to get LaFell open more times than not. Could be true...which is another reason why he is not the best WR2 to have for Cam (deferring to those who believe that LaFell is a legit two). And just think, he had some uttering that he was possibly 89's heir once upon a time. If someone still believes this after basically four years, God help them. The notion is more than amusing...more than funny...it's just downright ludicrous.

Interesting point, but Wallace and Jennings has bad QB play. What's sad is Wallace and Tannehil only connection on the deep ball came on our DB's

Perhaps (especially more in the case of Jennings), but that's why I threw in the line about the LaFell-Clausen connection, even though LaFell didn't begin the season as a clear-cut starter. You can't blame everything on bad QB play.

I know one thing: I am not liking the idea of overpaying Nicks, not only because of what I've seen from vets lately, but because of what I've seen from rookies.  I would hate to miss out on some young talent because we opted to overpay for a guy on questionable knees who appears to have lost a step, can't get the separation that he once did, and seems to use his big body to just out muscle balls from DBs that he once blew by.

I want Nicks, but if he's asking for too much no thanks. I just hope we not putting too much on him and if we dont get him, we then proceed to move on from WR. That's a failure 100%

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
