Officially Concerned about the Offense

this kills me. we all KNOW the blocking is horrible. so the last thing you want to do is line up and go head to head. shula needs to be more clever and sneaky.

misdirections. bunch wr sets to pull the d over and create a one on one in the slot for Olsen. naked bootlegs and let Cam either literally fall down for 5 yards or find an open guy. make that db commit one way or the other.

Mike Shula is the biggest hinderance to our offense. He just doesn't call smart plays in crucial situations. Calling 30 yard pass plays when you only need a couple yards is inexcusable. He lacks play calling that would help Cam out like slants and screens. He also loves running up the middle just about all the time. He doesn't adjust that well also. Newton got Chud the HC job. Newton is making Shula look way better than he actually is too.

i edited my post. and reposted it below, but we ran a much more dynamic and prolific offense with pretty close to this same group of guys only with a couple upgrades at WR.

We also benefited from being the first team with read option elements in the NFL. Then in 2012 everyone stole it for themselves and ran it into the ground, and now it's no longer an X-factor that keeps teams scared. And Cam hasn't had a monster passing game since his rookie season, and his high yardage efforts after that typically resulted in losses.

Not even sure if this stuff is in our playbook. lol

That's true, but a traditional offense that can't get first downs also leaves the defense on the field all game, as we've seen lately.

Of course not moving the ball leaves the defense out there any time.  But still a hurry up works when it moves the ball not results in 3 and outs.  But look at yesterday.  How many times were receivers wide open but Cam overthrew them by 5 or even 10 yards.  Poor playcalling results in players not having a chance to make a play.  Poor execution means the chance was there but we didn't take advantage of it.  I think that has happened a lot the past several games.

How do you guys come up with these stuff? Let me understand this, so you're coaching an overachieving 12-4 team to do what again?

You're mixing points. I'm saying Cam has a tendency to throw the ball high...A LOT. The Hixon pass was the perfect example. I cannot show you examples of the instances where the WRs bail out Cam on a lot of high throws simply because I don't have access to every throw Cam made in the game. I'm looking, but if you have game film from the past 3 weeks...put out the link and I'll show you what I'm talking about. It was even mentioned by the commentators yesterday on FOX. Don't believe me? Most balls are completely uncatchable when they're high. That particular one was high enough to where Hixon actually could touch it, but deflected high into the arms of the Atl db.

Cam knows this...which is why he knows the offense has a lot of work to do to prepare. Even coachspeak with reporters yesterday intimated that Cam needed to calm down. When he does...he can make plays. But there are just certain types of passes that Cam is having some real difficulty with right now. If defenses know this, they're going to simply force our WRs to adjust their routes to Cam's weakness areas and take advantage of it and force 3 and outs if our running game isn't there. Gotta make those quick slant throws accurately to keep chains moving. Something elite QBs do. We cannot rely on Cam's legs all the time.

No QB is perfect. Did you watch the GB/Chicago game, Rodgers threw a horrible INT in the redzone. Threw it right at Conte as if Conte was his receiver, bad throws happen. Cam missed Olsen wide yesterday, could have taken a little something off on the slant to Hixon, sure, but that same arm strength was the only reason why he completed the TD to Olsen.

Some of you have Cam under such a microscope it's impossible for him to ever please you. Some already made up there mind 3 years ago and nothing will change it.

But back to your initial point, these receivers have let Cam down alot more than Cam has let them down. That pass to LaFell down the middle should have gone for 6 yesterday, instead LaFell drops it and they punt.

i agree. if the rhythm isn't there or Cam is missing guys then do dinks and dunks to get not only his confidence going but the wr's into an easy flow.

rhythm=confidence=explosive plays

my favorite type of user on this forum is the "I'm going to argue with you about something you NEVER said, if you even hint at critiquing Cam" guy

every single comment goes like this:

-"I wish Cam would step into his throws more"

-"WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO BE PERFECT?!?!? GEEZ!!!"

or

-"Cam sails the ball quite a bit. Man if he can get that under control, we will be unstoppable"

-"BREES SAILS THE BALL ALOT TOO!!!! WHATS YOUR POINT?!? WOW, NO PLEASING YOU PEOPLE!! WE'RE 12-4!!! RELAX!!!!"

its always nice to see who here is a knowledgeable football fan. And those who ONLY knows Carolina Panthers, and can't put anything into context

Literally laughing at the ridiculousness of posters in this thread. We have won 11 of 12, had the best regular season in team history arguably, we'll probably be getting Smith back, and we're hosting a home playoff game, and we have people on suicide watch. L O L

expressing concern over our underwhelming offense as we enter into our first playoffs since 2008 is suicide watch?

talk about overreacting.

but hey, whatever helps you sell your efforts to be mr. homer instead of the troll you were known to be prior to just a few weeks ago...

Yea, how many time was it? Stop being lazy and go watch the game again to answer your question. You guys are the bitchiest football fans. 12-4 and a bye week, baby! Not every one have AJ Green, Demaryus thomas, Bowe, etc. to just throw the ball up to.
