Who looks guilty?

He's not a great player but I think our Oline fail gets a little overstated at times. We gave up the 14th most sacks (middle of the pack). We gave up the 27th most QB hits. All while Cam admits he holds the ball too much. Yeah the oline is our weakness but it's not THAT bad.

Cam may sometimes hold the ball too much, but the way he evades pressure at very least negates that.

The OL is not that bad. Sometimes Cam bounce for 7 seconds back there with no one coming open. The laser to Olsen is a perfect example that the OL is not bad.

Why do many assume that Bell would be able to make the transition from tackle to guard? Why do you think he'd be better there? What part of the skillset he's shown translates to that move being a good one?

I've heard that suggestion made many times but never accompanied by a solid argument. Both guards in our scheme pull and run traps a lot. Is this what you want Byron doing? Is it because of his pass blocking? Someone, please make this case for me.

Bell's drop is disturbing because it reduces the pocket considerably.  He should make contact earlier and slide out or inside.  Instead, he drops into the pocket area, where the rusher will be targeting the Qb-takes away the guess work  and encourages the DE/LB to bull rush him.  He does fairly well vs. the bull rush, but it is not effective simply because he is not surrendering numerous sacks--it limits the range and vision of the qb--often creates a qb hurry.  Notice how often Cam adjusts his rhythm based on the disruptions caused by Bell;s man.  Since Bell's man is often in Cam's line of vision, Cam can elude the pressure--making Bell seem better than he is.  Byron Bell would not be able to block for Manning or Brady.

This adjustment was made by the OL coach to cover Bell's ineptitude. It is time to get a quality RT and RG for that matter. Next year, he will be a bench player or a G--but he was not successful when playing G in the past.
