Much has been made of pro wrestler and former long-time Charlotte resident Ric Flair delivering a pre-game pep talk to theSan Francisco 49ers last weekend before a playoff game in Wisconsin. 

At the time, Flair told the 49ers, who face the Carolina Panthers in a divisional playoff game Sunday at Bank of America Stadium, that his heart was with them all the way. Sportswriters and others in the media have seized on the apparent lack of loyalty. Flair, after all, became a familiar face on the Panthers’ stadium scoreboard in a video exhorting fans to echo his signature “Woooo!” chant.

All of which sets up an intriguing subplot for the game Sunday: Whether Flair might make an appearance in the stands or on the sidelines (Panthers or Niners?) at BofA Stadium. Considering the fact that Flair (real name: Richard Fliehr) has an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Mecklenburg County, he might want to think twice before tackling a playoff visit.

On July 3, Mecklenburg District Court Judge Christy T. Mann signed an order for the arrest of one Richard Fliehr on contempt of court violations. Legal documents show the former wrestler failed to meet the terms of a June 18 order.

That order called for the wrestler to pay $32,352.51 in unpaid post-separation support and legal fees by 5 p.m. on June 27 and maintain support of his estranged spouse’s car lease and insurance and health insurance, documents show.

Of note: the court order says Flair/Fliehr's failure to meet the deadline means he would be required to turn himself in and “shall remain in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff until he pays all sums required…”

As of Thursday afternoon, a warrant for Flair's arrest is still outstanding, according to the sheriff's office. The next hearing is set for Jan. 24 in Mecklenburg County.

Flair is no stranger to legal entanglements. In 2011, sports website Grantland chronicled,  in exhaustive fashion, the wrestler’s lengthy list of unpaid taxes, loans, bad business deals, physical fights with his daughter’s boyfriend and other individuals, and many other misadventures. In 2006, as Grantland recounts, The  Charlotte Observer noted an ex-wife failed in an “attempt to have Fliehr held in contempt for not sharing his Carolina Panthers season tickets.”

Melinda Morris Zanoni of Legacy Talent and Entertainment in Charlotte, Flair's agent, could not be reached for immediate comment Thursday. However,  a statement issued later in the day via Facebook confirmed that Flair won't be at Sunday's game.

“When the 49ers reached out and WWE asked Ric to jet up there, of course he said yes,” Zanoni says in the statement, “and he’s friends with a bunch of the 49ers just like he is with the Panthers, Packers, and many other NFL players. But no, Ric does not intend on attending the Panthers vs. 49ers game this weekend.”

The release included a quote from Flair: “What can I say? I’ve always been a very good heel!”

Flair, whose decades-long wrestling career has made him a national celebrity, turns 65 next month.

Frankly speaking, I wouldn't take much offense to this "Ric Flair" character.

 

Sure he backed the reigning King of Qbs, however that was merely a conspicuous realization of impeccability.

 

Can one truly blame or hold hostile regards towards another who exercises their innate ability to rely on sound judgement?

Colin Kaepernick is an above average mobile QB. He will never be on the same level as a Russell Wilson, Cam Newton or Michael Vick in his day.
