Even outsiders noted the officiating

@brithume

Blown calls in Panthers-Niners game another exmpl why challenges should be allowed for penalty calls & non calls. Keep same # of challenges.

Brit Hume is a political commentator, born and raised in Washington D.C.  So my assumption is he's a Redskins fan.

(P.S. Please, for those who know what network this guy works/worked for and want to bring politics into this thread... DON'T.  It's not about politics.  Its about the officiating.  This is just an example of an "outsider" who NOTICED, his politics be damned or not.)

Yeah the officiating was pretty bad, but it's been that way all season in almost every game.  The NFL just needs to overhaul its officating procedures and start from scratch.

No, today was pretty blatant with the bad officiating. It felt like the refs were in favor of the 49ers throughout the game.

32 teams in the NFL played 16 regular season games. Virtually every one of those games had instances of bad officiating. Officiating has progressively gotten worse over the past couple years and until the NFL makes the officials a full-time, NFL paid employee instead of a part-time gig I'm afraid it won't get any better. But even full-time refs won't make all the difference.

I wouldn't even be against reviewable penalty calls or having any flag challengeable. It may slow down the game but you can't have refs playing this big of a hand in the outcomes of these games.

These guys bust there asses all year, the refs should play not part in a season ending loss.

All officiating in all sports is becoming worse and worse. For the baseball fans on this board you don't need to think to far back. Joe Nathan threw a called strike 3 to end a game last year that was a foot off the plate and in the dirt. Even Nathan was stunned when the ump called it a strike

Yeah, I'm a niners fan and I thought there were a couple of bad flags. The after the play on mitchell wasn't much of anything. But we had the roughing the passer in second half that wasn't a penalty, but they called it

So you're guy rocking Cam's head back with his helmet isn't a penalty?

Okkkkkkkkkkk...

Why?  Because he's Cam and he deserves it?  You don't think that flag would have been thrown if that had been Peyton Manning taking the same blow to the head?

No, because he was in the pocket about to get hit in the back, and then he turns around to get away from the rush and pretty much collides head to head with skuta. What the hell is he supposed to do? I would say Cam was a runner after he decided to spin around and try to get out of the pocket.

I've said this all season... Bad officiating all around.

We benefited from a bad roughing call today too, but the first half officiating was as bad as I've seen.

Everyone noticed and only homerish 49er fans don't want to accept that they had help.

Would we have won the game? Don't know, but it sucks to not get a fair shake.

    • First, am I wrong? I looked back over all his posts here and I didn't see anything positive other than Shough. Second, pretty sure if you had read the post I was responding to, you would have seen CRA made poo personal as well . You just choose to address me instead of him. Not sure why?????
    • I wanted XL but I felt he should have been a 2nd rounder but I understand the logic trading up just to get the option. A safety net for your gamble.    Certainly disappointed with his receivers development but i like his down field blocking and I imagine that's what's keeping him on the field.
    • Pretty sure it is a given Young lacks typical QB size and strength and he is here simply because his other attributes more than make up for it. My point is not to indicate anyone "settled" for him but rather to remind people that there have been plenty of big, strong QB's that have not lived up to expectations. Jamis Winston, Anthony Richardson, Trey Lance, JaMarcus Russel are a few examples. They all have the physical attributes coveted by teams and yet none have had sustained success in the NFL. And yes, there are QBs that do have both but there aren't many and some of the ones still playing were failures with their early teams. Saying Young is a bust simply based upon his size (and I do think it is as simple as that for a few guys around here) is unfair to both him and the team.
