If Dwayne Jarrett blows up, can anyone stop our offense?

The Question

Recommended Posts

The way I look at it, if Jarrett comes through as a solid wide receiver (which all signs are pointing toward) who can really stop our offense? Barring too many offensive line injuries, we have arguably the best duo in the league, and Deangelo alone gives defensive coordinators insomnia, Stewart shows promise to be just as good, if not better. That alone is putting 8 in the box for a good chunk of the plays this year, people know they're good. I don't see a team that can afford to put 8 in the box and cover Smith, Moose and Jarrett. If they don't stack, we run all over them.

Thoughts?

What signs are you referring to? I think there were a few glimmers of hope but the jury is still out. I feel optimistic about him but the phrase "Jarrett is a solid option" still ends with a ? rather than !.

I skulk around in the realm of reality. It is truely a lonely place

Well, considering he caught quite a few big 3rd down passes and his yards to catch ratio is outstanding (since he was inactive or a 4th receiver majority of the time), I'd say that is a good sign. The other sign being the FO didn't add a solid #3 receiver and is content having him there....

Don't get me wrong, we still have to see... but those would be good signs, none-the-less... But I see you're point, I don't think any of us can say he is a solid 3rd WR yet, since this is the year he needs to prove it.

Yes it can easily be stopped as long as John Fox is our offense and defensive coordinator and continues to run the same conservative plays. I mean seriously we're talking about Dwayne Jarrett here...a "potentially" decent #3 receiver. Not an elite starting wr like Randy Moss or Larry Fitgerald.

We will be unstoppable, best offenses always beat the best defenses, its only a matter of time.

The other day I was watching an old USC vs Fresno State game where Dwayne Jarrett was going against Richard Marshall and Dwayne on a couple of occasions (only a couple because it was the reggie bush show) put a some good moves against Marshall and had a pretty good game. It seemed like Jarrett was Lineart go to guy on USC receiver wise. Jarrett was really impressive, or Marshall didn't look soo good. Marshall also got juked a couple times bad for the big play by Bush.

If Jarrett can be a good third down option and get open against a slot defender and come up much bigger in the red zone when we decide to pass, then he will have done a good job. I don't think that there is number he has to reach much like Proehl didn't have to make catches every game to earn his keep. But Ricky knew how to get open and was money on third down. If Jarrett can continue to improve on his performance from last year as well as make the most of the catches thrown to Hackett last year, he should be valuable and will stop the double teams on Smith all day. What I want to see is his improvement in blocking. Moose offers him a great mentor and role model.

    • Canales talks exactly like narcissists talk because they can’t understand how their actions impact other people negatively. They’re describing what they should be feeling or thinking instead of saying it.  if you’ve ever dated one you know exactly what I mean and it’s off putting if you’ve gone through it.  im sure his apology to Izzy sounded like “I never thought you’d be so upset by me masturbating with Brad Idzik during a film session. Again. I thought we had moved past that. In the future, you need to make your displeasure more clear.”
    • I like Chuba as a person. However when we signed him to that extension I said it was a risk because he had his best statistical season while we have invested over the last 2 seasons what is now a league leading amount of money in the offensive line and it's only going to increase with us needing to sign our left tackle to an upcoming extension. We cannot afford all this. Our defense is already amongst one of the lowest invested groups in the league and we expect them to shoulder the burden. As far as Chuba over Rico let's just call it what it is. Our franchise making decisions based on what we've invested in a player instead of doing what's best for the team. We've already been doing this with Bryce Young and we again have one of the league's worst QB rooms. It cannot continue. How many blowout losses can we witness before things like this finally click? Either we begin operating like a serious franchise or we will look up and reach the milestone of being a cellar dweller for 10 consecutive years.
    • They need to be dug up and made into a fan handbook. I'm almost positive there is a gameday monolog for every team in the league. Man I miss old SCP. He was a poet and didn't know it.
