Jordan Matthews

Not standing out or dominating is a far damn cry from having an awful week.

Talk about distortion.

lol your one draft site with a predetermined opinion doesnt override the number of sources down here locally and voices of scouts ive heard with my own ears talking about how terrible he's been this week.

will it hurt him? dont know. lotta months left and I wasnt there today, but dont throw some c-tier site at me and act like it's sacred text when ive seen with my own eyes how he's performed and heard with my own ears from credible people the opinions of him

Lol, oh boy. Joat just disengage right now.

Apparently Matthews has impressed. That article on the Panthers website was good.

Matthews has it, I remember Allen last year, before his injury, had a knock on him for his speed. The kid could play though. Then the injury came, he ran a 4.7 I believe and fell. To me Matthews is Allen from last year minus the injuries. Depending his combine, his stock may raise and he will not be available at 28. Who knows there could be another late riser with size and speed that woos everyone and Matthews falls.

I'm a huge Benjamin fan but I'm nervous that he will turn into Stephen Hill of the Jets. Physical attributes through the roof, but unpolished route running, drops, and mainly overpowered defenses in college on go-routes. I hope this isn't true, because I feel like we might have to choose between Benjamin, Robinson and Matthews.

Might want to add Brandin Cooks to that list.

Yeah, I had a fairly meh attitude towards Keenan Allen until I actually started studying all the video. I turned around as the draft approached, even to the point of saying we would draft him in the second.  I am not making that same mistake this year.  I am on board from the get-go this year as I see a lot of Allen in this guy.

Did someone post this yet? Scanned through and didn't see it.

Given our interest in Allen last year, I see us looking hard at JM.  I know they're different but have some big similarities.

And I really don't get the whole "he's reached his ceiling" / "not a true #1" arguments.  Just because he doesn't run under a 4.38, isn't over 6'4, and already has a highly refined game doesn't mean he can't blossom in the NFL and be a top target.

Boldin, Allen, Jeffery, Josh Gordon, Andre Johnson, Jordy Nelson, Decker...all fit into this category and that's pretty much the cream of the crop outside of Green, Megatron, Brown, and De Thomas.  I know that's a lot of different types of players but I think you see what I'm getting at.

I don't know who your sources are, etc. etc., but you can't judge someone just by one off day. Obviously there are plenty of analysts and scouts who think that this kid is the real deal.

Per Chase Goodbread of NFL.com

Matthews turns heads

After grousing about dropping a few passes Monday, Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews was spectacular at Tuesday's practice. He got open consistently and made a few very difficult grabs, and NFL Media analyst Charles Davis took notice of his ability to catch the ball in traffic.

"He will go into the briar patch, take his hits and keep on ticking," Davis said after Tuesday's practice. "I never worry about that part with him. Obviously, people are going to want to know what he runs (at the combine). All in all, I think he's a big-time prospect.

Per Ravens.com:

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Matthews had a bit of a slow start at the Senior Bowl, but was excellent on Tuesday and good again on Wednesday. He is physical enough to get off press coverage, runs good routes and gets open. He juked one defender badly on Wednesday, drawing “ooohs” from the crowd

Per Ravens.com:

The biggest talk is his Monday and Wednesday practice. He had a poor day Monday and followed it up with what was his best day by far Tuesday, but went out Wednesday and did solid but was a significant drop off from the day prior.

The biggest qualm people had is that Matthews has been dropping footballs this week and that is supposed to be his strong point. He isn't explosive and he doesn't have outstanding size, so when he came out putting footballs on the ground it got a lot of people down here talking. Even Tuesday he followed up a spectacular catch down the sideline with a "doh" drop the vey next play. (Which wasn't his only of that day)

He's been solid but unremarkable and I'm frankly, and ill add the qualifier of "at this juncture" because don't like making statements on players in January, but at this point I'm more keen on Robinson when discussing players projected to be on the board at 28.

If the Panthers are in need of immediate infusion of "ready" talent in a WR, then Benjamin, a project, might not be in Gmans plans, even if available.  Can you imagine the uproar if his routes break off or he stops a route and Cam gets interceptions because of it?

The YAC is very important to me.  Jerry Rice made a living catching an 8 yd pass and tripling the yardage.

Anyway, at 28, and if we are picking a WR instead of an OT, then I am assuming we need them to start.  If Benjamin, Robinson and Matthew were available at that point, then I would take Robinson.  Just my take, he would be an immediate upgrade over Lafell.
