Say what you want about BR, but they are moving up in the world, assigning writers to divisions, and sending them to the Senior Bowl...What next, team-specific writers?  Anyway, our guy right now is Knox Bardeen and he reported some names that may be on the radar, even referencing that Charlie Campbell of Walter Football confirmed meetings between our Carolina Panthers and Wisconsin LB and WR, respectively, Chris Borland and Jared Abbrederis.

 

So, guys, we are at least talking to another LB prospect that some people are comparing to whom other than our very own Luke Keuchly. Would we possibly pull the trigger on yet another LB? Talking about scenarios, possible reverberations, and a peek into the future. Never can rule anything out with G-man and Rivera. But let's talk about what we really want to talk about: Jared Abbrederis. 

 

Abbrederis is a name that I've seen on several lists as being a solid prospect. As he has been my go-to-guy so far this offseason, I will refer to Patrick Karraker's (of Rants Sports) scouting report:

 

 

Positives

  • Crisp route-runner and always knows where to position himself; moves his feet flawlessly
  • Does a great job of stretching the field and getting open to make big catches
  • A real weapon near the sidelines, as he is able to get to the ball and get out of bounds when necessary
  • Runs with a hectic, shifty upright style and is difficult to take down; exceptionally elusive for a player of his size
  • Exhibits a good amount of effort on run blocks
  • Has returned kicks and punts; his shiftiness gives him the potential to be a dynamic punt returner as a pro

Negatives

  • Seems to get worked up when defensive backs stick to him downfield, and it looks like it affects his confidence as a receiver
  • Potential fumbling issues
  • Straight-line speed is questionable

Abbrederis looks like another prospective value pick that we all know that G-man loves. Just keep in mind that  Abbrederis was perhaps the best WR at the Senior Bowl as noted by Rana Cash of the Sporting News:

 

Jared Abbrederis of Wisconsin is such a technician as a route runner, and he works so well to get cornerbacks outside the framework of their body as he sets up deep breaking routes. He seems focused throughout his routes on every play. Throughout the week, he’s been arguably the top receiver in attendance at the Senior Bowl.

 

 

 

But back to the Knox Bardeen---who like many referenced Jordan Matthews---also mentioned Jeff Janis. Janis, a WR out of Saginaw Valley State with his mix of good size and speed, will probably be a mid-draft option at WR

 

Another sizable option at receiver is Jeff Janis from Saginaw Valley State. The 6’3” Janis caught 83 passes last season for 1,572 yards and 14 

touchdowns

 

Keep in mind that Janis reportedly ran a 4.36 and 4.42 40 as well.

 

lastly, a very interesting name, indeed, that Knox entered into the fray is Stanley Jean-Baptiste:

 

Nebraska cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste shined in Mobile this week, and Bleacher Report’s own draft guru Matt Miller was impressed prior to and during the coaching sessions.

"Liked Stanley Jean-Baptiste's film quite a bit. Issue was how athletic/fluid he was. This week he's shown well. Rd 1 pick wouldn't surprise"

 

 

Jean-Baptiste is a 6’3” beast at 220 pounds. He posted six interceptions during his junior and senior seasons combined and 21 pass breakups. If the Panthers are going to target him, it’ll likely be early on Day 2 of the draft.

 

 

Guys, if Matt Miller is right, and Jean-Baptiste continues to shine he could be in play at 28, especially if Matthews and others are gone, and some other mid-draft wide-out prospect impresses during the Combine and pro days and is projected to still be available in rounds three and four. Gettleman is a technician at rooting out talent, so who knows what he's got cooking and how it will all play out?  It's all just food for thought right now, but I suspect he'll come out with a full course meal during the draft.

Lol every player who has a good practice is a round 1 pick these days

 

The only person in here that is mentioned here in reference to round 1 is Jean-Baptiste, and that was by Matt Miller. Even the writer believes that if Jean-Baptiste is targeted by the Panthers that it would probably be on day 2.  

 

So far the only real round 1 draft pick possibility mentioned in this piece is Matthews, but we already know about him. But, that's "so far".  However, I would love for a legitimate shut-down 6'3" guy to work his way into the late first round.

Watch how many players like that get mentioned as a possible 1st rounder throughout this offseason, at least like 50.

I haven't seen him play, but his smallish frame and injuries are a concern. He needs to beef up a little bit.

My 15-year-old son is 6'2"-ish and weighs around 220.

I saw him play several times, even as the focal point of the D they couldn't stop him. You'd seen him beat double and triple teams. He's be a perfect 2-3 WR.

      The "now it's been three years" Grade for the 2023 Draft

      Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
