So is this out of line?

Terance Knighton researches Max Unger’s personal life for trash talk material

“I’m going against Max Unger this week,” Knighton said. “He’s a good player. He’s real crafty. He knows a lot of tricks of the trade of trying to influence you to do certain things. I’ve just been watching him over and over, and trying to figure out what he’s thinking about, and how other guys in the league have been successful. Arizona played them pretty well, their defensive front. I’ve just been watching a lot of guys, watching as much as I can.”

That’s not all the research Knighton is doing: Knighton also said part of his preparation for facing off with Unger is finding out things about Unger’s personal life, which he can use for trash talk during the game.

“Today I’ll start Googling him and doing all types of stuff to guide out his personal life,” Knighton said. “I want to know everything about him. Just everything, from his favorite food to his favorite color, where he grew up at, how many siblings he has. I want to know everything about him, and I’ll probably talk a little smack Sunday. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s the middle of their offense, and I take pride in being the middle of our defense. So it’s going to come down to that matchup really with a team that likes to run the ball. I’m pretty sure he’s studying me right now, and I’ll be studying him as soon as I leave here. May the best man win.”

Remember when Steve Smith blistered Janoris Jenkins for saying things about his wife?

So is Knighton out of line here?

not yet, but he could certainly cross that line during the game depending how personal he takes it.  knighton has rejuvenated his career this year and one of the top DT's in the league.  Denver's defense is vastly underrated because the offense is so good.  this should be an excellent game and I will keep an eye on this matchup for sure.

John Randall made a career out of doing that in Minnesota. If you can get your opponent out of the game mentally that is a W.

True, but Randle didn't bring people's families into it that I remember.

Randle was just kind of out there/borderline insane the same way Greg Hardy is.

It's just talk. It's petty & juvenile. But getting upset over it is, too.

Smitty should've just ignored Jenkins. Rough him up on the field a little & talk back, but mostly just best him like a drum during the game. No need to go off on a profanity laced rant after the game. Just stoops you down to his level.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
