Greg Hardy says Panther negotiations yet to begin.

Per Scott Fowler:

Like quarterback Cam Newton, Panther defensive end Greg Hardy is also in New York, taking a bite out of the Big Apple. Both men have logged some serious time on airplanes in the past week, having played in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii Sunday.

"I'm here to see everybody and be seen," Hardy told me Thursday afternoon. He sported a gray suit with a name tag attached that read "Kraken!"

Hardy, an unrestricted free agent, said he and the Panthers have not begun contract negotiations.

"They are still working on their cap situation as I understand," he said. "We're playing the waiting game right now.... If they can afford me, man, I'd love to be there. That's my team. My family. We got a good thing going right now."

I think Hardy really, really wants to be here. He is always talking about getting paid, but he talks about wanting to be here just as much. If Gettleman makes him a reasonable offer I think he'll take it in a heart beat over going to a dumpster fire like Oakland or Jacksonville just to make more money. He even said losing sucks and he doesn't want to get stuck in that again.

The NFLPA is debating on taking an option on the cap that would raise it. I think most all contract talks are put off until then. So pause on the the panic button or assuming about what Gettleman is thinking.

So no one as of yet knows what the actual cap will be but it should be the first time the cap is above its 2009? Number which it has been below since the plaYers got shafted by the billionares.

From National Football Post:

NFL teams were informed at an NFL meeting in December that the 2014 salary cap is preliminarily projected to be $126.3 million. This is a 2.68 percent increase over the current $123 million salary cap. Based on my conversations with a few NFL front office executives, the cap could be as high as $128 million when it is finalized in late February or early March.

I think hardy is just being the kraken when he talks about his contract... obviously everyone wants the max they can get but i truly dont think hes all about the benjamins. he said a month ago that he wants to have a contract bigger than flaccos, staffords, and calvins combined, i think hes smart enough to realize that isnt realistic and hes just trolling around.

i bet he takes a 6 yr/$58 million contract

I really hope that we can resign Hardy. I'd like to keep our current continuity together, especially on the D-line. Atlanta missed out non Johnson and made Hurney feel like he had to overspend to keep him and now their licking their chops because they know that Gettleman won't do the same, mistake or not...

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
